My surgeon side that my surgery would be very easy for him because we are nipping my problem in the bud early on when I still have "pleasant" options for hysterectomy. My sister in law is a nursing school instructor who has witnessed several DvH procedures with her students. She said that it can take upwards of 90 minutes for them to "ready the robot" once the patient is out and on the table.
How long will you be staying in the hospital? My surgeon said that usually you go home that same day, but since I'm having my bladder and rectocele repaired, I will have to have a catheter in the first day, so I'll be staying one night. Good luck to you!!!

Re: Length of surgery

I had a TAH on Aug 22 and my surgery took 1 1/2 hrs. Less time than she thought it would take. I did have to spend 3 days and 2 nights in hospital.

My dr. said I'll be in one night. I am the first surgery on the 12th. (I have to be there at 5 AM and the operating hospital is 90 minutes away.)

Re: Length of surgery

I had robotic surgery. Dr told me 2 - 2.5 hours but took almost 5 hours! I had a lot of fibroids and several big ones. He did make a 2 inch low abdominal cut. It would of taken about 1.5 hours more if he did not cut me. I stayed overnight in the hospital. The reason it took so long is that my fibroids rearranged some of my organs.
I did have minor complications (had a csth for 10 days) but I am doing great 4 months post.

Re: Length of surgery

I was told 1.5 hours and having it done laposcopic. I just hope he does not have to cut me. But I am tired of bleeding every day all day for the last 8 weeks. I am even on meds and it is slowing it down, but not stopping it.

I hear you about the bleeding. I've been eating birth control pills like candy, straight through the packs, for about the past 6 weeks to try and control some of my bleeding and to get me through until surgery on 9/12. It's not working perfectly, but it's better than notihng right now, so I'll take it.
