Anesthesiologist & Hospital

Well today I had an appointment with the anesthesiologist. It went well. I told him all my fears about panic attacks, and waking up with the tube in my throat.. and this and that.. I think I talked his ear off

But I feel sooooooooooooo much better after chatting with him and having my vitals checked.

Then I went up to the ward where I will be staying, looked at the private room I will be in, and felt a sense of calm.

My doctor has given me dormican? (sp) I think that is how you spell it, as my pre med.

Has anyone had that and did it work? I do not want to remember a thing! about going in or out of the OR.

Re: Anesthesiologist & Hospital

I am glad your discussion with the anesthesiologist made you feel better!!! It always helps when our questions get answered, and we can take that deep breath! I wish you well!! My surgery is a week after yours. I see my anesthesiologist a week from today. Not sure if I will see my surgeon then too or just the day of surgery before I go in.

Re: Anesthesiologist & Hospital

I have so many questions still, but most of them are for the surgeon or the nurse as apposed to the anesthesiologist. (Thank god for spell check because I butcher that spelling every time lol)

I know I want the catheter removed ASAP post-op. As soon as they will let me. I already bought cranberry juice just in case

We can definitely compare notes. I looked at the calendar and there are about 12 ladies having surgery on the same day as me. It is comforting to know that I am not going through this alone.

Re: Anesthesiologist & Hospital

I was terrified of anesthesia as well, never having had it before. In the OR the nurse told me she was starting a sedative to relax me and that was the last thing I remember before being wheeled out after the operation. No tube in my throat, but I did have a dry mouth and nausea. I spoke with a couple anesthesiologists prior to the surgery and waking up early only happens on the rarest of occasions, usually when there's other factors such as illegal drug use or its an emergency without enough time to properly administer the anesthesia. I know its hard not to worry, but you won't have to for long. You'll go to sleep and suddenly wake up and it will be over. Best wishes!!

Re: Anesthesiologist & Hospital

I had anesthesia when I had the fibroid removed, I remember him saying he was going to start the fluid, I looked at the clock on the wall and that was it. I woke up in post up and first thing I asked was the time I did okay that time but definitely want preventive measures this time. I am most worried about the pain of recovery vs the surgery itself. Plus being fit enough to go back to work in 8 weeks. I need to be able to lift 40-50lbs consistently for an 8hr period
