A Goodbye Letter to my menstrual cup...

For those who don't know what a menstrual cup is, it's the best thing since, well, anything for "feminine hygiene". Some people get squigy thinking about it, as did I early on, but once I tried it, I was SOLD. My adult daughters use them and my younger 2 will be introduced when appropriate. Anyway, I had just suffered an embarrassing loss of my Diva cup and ordered a lovely green LadyCup before this nonsense struck a few months ago. Since my last episode, the doc seems to think I'm in the clear bleeding-wise until my surgery next week, so I decided to write it a farewell.

Dear Greenie,
I have some bad news for you. Even though you are a new addition in my life, I won’t be needing you anymore. It’s a shame, you are my favorite shade of green and really stuck out from the rest of the plain white silicone crowd, but it’s time for a change.

I’m very sorry that I learned about your species so late in my life. I remember the first time I used your cousin, Diva, how I suddenly didn’t hate my period for the first time in 30 years. Sadly, as you well know, that was short-lived. You worked hard and did the best you could to protect me, but my body just wasn’t cooperating.

You and Diva have allowed me to teach many lessons to young women and show them a better way, saving their bodies as well as money and the environment and I appreciate you for that. I could never just throw you away, so now that you’re all boiled and have had your peroxide bath, I’ll tuck you in my bag and pull you out whenever I need a visual aid for my menstrual cup crusade.

Thanks for helping me swim on my first cruise when Mother Nature thought she would keep me in my cabin instead. Ha! We showed her. I can’t say that I’ll miss you, but thanks for the memories!

Really? I've often wondered about those..but now as I get close to surgery, there's no need I guess.

Great little letter, Gray!
