Hysterectomy October 23--I have a cold

Good morning, I am getting concerned. My surgery is scheduled for October 23rd. I have a cold now. No fever, but a cough(especially at night) also a bit of congestion. I've been taking meds for it, I'm wondering if they will cancel/reschedule? How long should I wait and see it gets better? I'm so frustrated.

I think you have plenty of time for this to run it's course. When the hospital called for the anesthesia consult, they wanted to know if I had a cold/ran a fever recently... and they called last week - my surgery is on Wednesday. You know your body, so if you feel worse or run a fever - call your provider and update them & see what they recommend! Good luck & get well soon.

Re: Surgery October 23--I have a cold

I have had lots of phlegm from allergies and talked to the pre-op nurse about it. She said I should be ok (love that word should) if I didn't have a fever and if there wasn't "too much" phlegm. She ok'd antihistamines and guaifenisen (an expectorant). I would tell your doctor's office or the pre-op nurse at the hospital what is going on and whether you should take anything. Also if there is stuff you shouldn't take. Good luck.

I had a cold the week right before that I was just getting over and since I didn't have a fever they did it anyways. You have plenty of time to kick it before your date. If your concerned maybe go to your general doctor and have him give you some meds to help you get over it faster, but you will probably recover on your own before then
