Do TVH always include vault and suspensions?

I am having a TVH due to uterine prolapse and the doctor said that he will be doing a vault and suspension with it. Is that normal for all surgeries?

I'm not sure what all is really involved in the vault and suspension is that just the repair of the vaginal wall or does that also include tacking up the bladder?

I had a TVH and didn't have all of the rest of the surgeries mentioned. I think it is because your uterus was out of place and the other organs have moved out.

Hi Sue It's not a given that everyone who has a TVH has additional pelvic support procedures, but for those of us who have the surgery for prolapse it's pretty common, and many women who have a TVH are having it for prolapse.

I had my surgery for prolapse six years ago. I had a bladder suspension at the time; mine just involved shortening the ligaments holding up the bladder. However, there are many different options, including several types of bladder sling, and you'd need to ask your DR specifically which procedure is planned in your case.

A&P (or just Anterior, or "A") repairs are also often done to strengthen the vaginal walls at the time of a hysterectomy for prolapse. I had those as well. Most, but not all, of us who have hysts for prolapse also have one or both of the A&P repairs. Your DR can tell you if he/she plans to do them in your case.

Hi sue,
I am scheduled for a TVH, A & P repair also a TOT bladder sling on Monday Sept. 8th. Diagnosis of a prolapsed Uterus and Cystocele. Not to mention it is a whomper in size. Hope he can get it out vaginally.
My Dr. talked to me about this vault suspension. He mentioned that it involves the Uteral ligament and giving them something to support. The Uterus previously did the job of suspension in that area.
I must agree with Linda, I have heard this is pretty common as well.
