How long with Hot flashes

Hi there, I'm new at this site but I thought I jump in with both feet....
I have a question I hope you can help me with...
I had my "big op" last year (okay 14 months ago give or take a week)
And due to medical reason I can't have any HRT....
wich mean hot flashes......how long do you suffer with those......???
Poor hubby is getting cold at night now when Autumn (fall) is settling over this beautiful place.....
If anyone just could share their experience of it all....
I'll be gratefull..

How long with Hot flashes

From what I've read, it varies so much from woman to woman. Some have little or no symptoms and others have flashes for years. If you haven't already done so, check out the No-hormone desert oasis for menopause management message board. That group is all in the same situation and could probably answer any questions you have, plus provide lots of sympathy and hugs.

How long with Hot flashes

I am glad you asked this Q, I too have been wondering myself. I start have hot flashes last year. I am going through natural menopause. My BF calls me his little eskimo He has to wear sweats in the house. Last night it got below 50 deg and I had the outside fan on blowing on my face, I woke up this morning and the heat was on. Thank God he is understanding. I just hope this doesn't get any worse after surgery. Does anyone have an approximation as too how long menopause last???

Thanks,
Marie

How long with Hot flashes

Hi, Sisters!

As luck would have it, I was at the Dr. yesterday discussing my post-op management. I am almost 4 months out from my TAH/BSO. I am 35. Appeased them and tried HRT and threw that stuff OUT after about 2 weeks! Felt horrible.

ANYWAY - I specifically asked how long I can expect to have hot flashes. He said 40-50% of women are free of hot flashes at 3 years, 90% are free of hot flashes at 5 years, and a lucky 10% have them for the rest of their life.

I have had a Dexa scan and doc says I have the bones of a teenager and I don't need to get rechecked for another 3 years (for bones, that is).

I feel great without the HRT - hot flashes are manageable. No sexual side effects. Doc says if I start to have problems that we can always try some other HRT alternatives that I haven't tried yet. (It would have top be something pretty bad for me to want to go down that road again!!).

Good luck to all of you who have not had your surgeries yet.

Relax.
Don't clean the house.
Stay focused on the goal and remember that it takes time and patience to get there.

Love you gals!

Jo

How long with Hot flashes

I too have surgical menopause. I started w/ mood swings, that lasted really bad only about a week. Then came the hot flashes. OMG, bad, bad, bad at night. Anyway a girl I work with recommended Tylenol just before I go to bed. Believe it or not, it helped. They are not near as bad. I get a full night of sleep. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. I was never so happy to sleep all night. This is an easy option. Maybe it can at least help a tad. Anything to help get at least one good nights sleep can make all the difference in the world. Best of wishes, we are here for you.
