Aloha,
I am new here. I wish I had found this forum sooner... My surgery is on Wednesday (April 16th) and tomorrow is my appt with the Dr. for pre-op. I also have an appt at the hospital the following day. I guess a lot of my questions will be answered tomorrow. I was just wondering how many hours you have to fast before the surgery? Does anyone know?

TIA
Maddy

Hi Maddy-
Usually, if you are having general anesthesia-it's nothing to eat or drink for 8 prior to surgery. The hospital will inform you at pre-op.

Thanks!

Thanks so much, Tricia!
My mom had hers done and she said she couldn't have anything to eat or drink for 24 hours! I thought that was a bit much...

Hi, Maddie and welcome. My surgery is the day after yours and I'm sure you'll get all your questions answered at the Pre-Surg Testing.

My surgery is scheduled for 2 p.m. and I've been told that I can eat nothing not even a throat lozenge, cough drop, nada, after midnight the night before. The nurse practioner even said that I can't swallow water after brushing my teeth. When they say NOTHING, they mean nothing! Well, I'll deal with all that... It will bring me that much closer to relief and having all this done with me.

God Bless and good luck! Keep in touch.

That is the one thing that I have always hated. Not being able to eat after Midnight. When I had surgery in February, My surgery was at 12:30 that day, and MAN was I starving. I hated it.

fast

Aloha all and thank you for all your replies,
I don't think I will mind the eating, but I LOVE to drink lots of water, even in the middle of the night. In fact, I have a bottle of ice-cold water next to my bed at all times! That is the part I will dread the most... I go in for my pre-op appt. today so I will find out what THEY have to say about that.

Thanks again...
