Vaginal prolapse

Someone please explain what vaginal prolapse is. What happens and what are the symptoms? What do you do about it? At three weeks out, I'm feeling pretty good, but this sounds like something else to worry about.

Vaginal prolapse

Hi jemd
If you are doing well, try not to let worries about these problems trouble you. You should do fine and chances are you won't have any of this happen. It is wise to be careful with heavy lifting. Many women don't realize that they can cause themselves serious injury in this area if they aren't careful.
To answer your question a vaginal prolapse happens when the walls of the vagina become stretched causing the bladder to fall into the colapsing wall, which is a cystocele,or for the back wall to colapse causing a rectocele or the rectum to bulge into the vagina.
That's a very simple explanation. Here is a link that explains it in more detail. http://ww3.komotv.com/global/story.asp?s=1230162
I hope this will help you understand this and that you will never have to experience any of it. Take good care.

Vaginal prolapse

Are you talking about a vaginal vault prolapse? I think that is different from cystocele(bladder prolapse) & rectocele (rectum prolapse). In my case my doctor did a uterosacral suspension where he suspended the top of the vaginal cuff to my tailbone (sacrum) to keep it from collapsing down into my vagina. Your doctor may have done the same thing to you. I didn't know I was having this done till I saw it on my pre-op paperwork & asked the nurse what it was. Anyway, try not to worry too much. If you are feeling good then more than likely you have nothing to worry about!

thank you

Thanks so much ladies for all the replies especially the website. Looks like I would fall in the less than 1% that might have this because I never had problems with any type of prolapse before and my surgery notes indicate that the vagina was anchored. But I'll ask my doctor next week. You ladies are the greatest at alieving fears.
