Bowel Prep and diabetics?

Hi Ladies,

I was doing okay with no freak outs until I went to my regular doctor and he freaked me when we talked about the bowel prep.

I'm a diabetic and have just recently gotten my sugars under control. He told me that with me going off of my Metformin (I'm on two other meds also) and with Gatorade that my sugars could go really high. My instructions also say that I can use Propel water which is what I am going to do because it has a lot less sugars and carbs but he told me that with not eating all day that my sugars could go too low!! SO, now I'm officially feaking out.

Are there any other diabetics out there that have suggestions? Also how did it affect your hospital stay?

Thanks!

Re: Bowel Prep and diabetics?

I can only help a little bit. My DF is a recently insulin-dependant diabetic. He's had to go through the bowel prep two times this year. We made sure his clear liquids were low in sugar and staggered out the gatorade as much as we could. We didn't have a diabetes scare with either test. He went a little high after the gatorade, but it was within his normal range and managed by the insulin.

Good luck with the test!

Re: Bowel Prep and diabetics?

How about using the G2? It is tastier than Propel, but has WAY less sugar than Gatorade. I had bariatric surgery, and the Gatorade makes me "dump" (nasty condition in which everything you have consumed recently makes its way out of your body thru one or both exits-caused by consuming excess sugar), but I can tolerate the G2 just fine. My stepdad is insulin dependent, and the G2 doesn't bother his sugar levels. Best of luck to you!
