Hot Flashes post-op

Hello ladies. I am now six days post op, and about 3 days post-op, started having hot flashes. I did keep my ovaries, and when I had my 1 week post-op today, I told my Dr. about the hot flashes, and he said that my ovaries looked good, and they should be working fine. Should I be concerned about this? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Thank you.

Re: Hot Flashes post-op

Oh yeah it seems to be pretty common here, I had freq and severe hot flashes for about a month or 2 after the TVH then they subsided. Apparently ovaries can go into a sort of shock for a while post op. Hope you get relief soon.

Re: Hot Flashes post-op

granted i don't have my ovaries anymore, but every time i've ever had surgery before i always have gotten hot flashes/nightsweats after surgery for about a week...
i have also heard about the ovaries going into shock and taking awhile to work again... hopefully they will wake up soon and do their job...

Re: Hot Flashes post-op

I too have 1 ovary remaining and part of my cervix. The shock of the surgery did affect me and hot flashes, mood swings, etc. were very much a problem for me after surgery. Talk to your doctor. S/he can do a blood test to see what the hormonal readings are and if a temporary administration of hormones might help you and/or if an anti-depressant might not be helpful. I did both temporarily and once things evened out, I stopped taking them. Talk to your doctor and see what feels right to you.

Re: Hot Flashes post-op

I kept both my ovaries, although I had a fibroma removed from one. I am definitely getting some hot flashes. That seems to be my only symptom and I'm in good spirits otherwise. But, I sure hope my ovaries settle down again soon.
Good luck to you- I hope it's not too bad for you!

Re: Hot Flashes post-op

I also kept both ovaries and I'm having a hard time with hot flashes and cold flashes. I spoke to my doctors nurse today and she told me this is normal and to be patient. I would have the Dr test your hormone levels if they haven't done so already. My doctors suggested Black Cohosh Extract
which I found at Wal-mart by the vitamins. I just started this so I'm hoping I'll get some relief. You might want to try this as well
Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon
