Sisters helping sisters? - Little or no help at home? Can we get together?

I keep reading posts from ladies who won't have any help (or very little) after surgery, or whose families or spouses don't seem to understand what major surgery this is. I find that I'm always looking to see what area they are from, because if they were closer to me I would love to jump in and help some.

I live in Northern Delaware, which is close to southeastern PA, some of south Jersey, and northeastern MD. I'm not saying that at this point (5 weeks post) I should be jumping in the car to run off caring for others, but I was wondering what others thought of the idea. I would love to take a nice meal to a fellow sister who didn't live far away, especially if she didn't have a lot of home support.

By the way, if there IS anyone relatively close to me, I would love you meet you and help if I can, even if it's just a grocery run, dog walk, home cooked meal, etc. I think there have been situations where we sisters can help each other, and I haven't read anything about any suggestions on these boards.

I know for a fact that in my situation, my DH would have tuned in to this being a more major surgery if someone had done this for me - "hey - maybe I should pay more attention to this - it must be a little more involved than I thought" Maybe a fellow sister talking about her recovery, thoughts, needs, etc would help not only the sister but the family too?

I don't mean that we have to start some complicated system here or anything - but I would love to help out some of my sisters, even in small ways, if that's all they need. Does anyone else have any opinion on this?

Debbie

Hi Debbie

Hyster Sisters has the Neighborhoods forum where you can get in touch with members who live in your State or Country. Posting there is a great way to meet other members. If there is a member who would care to have another member meet and sit with her while she's in the hospital, she could post in that forum.

Remember, sitting with a member in the hospital is fine, but remember, it's never a good idea to exchange personal information with anyone you have never met, nor is it a good idea to enter anyone's home unless you know them and your family knows where you will be.

We assume that because the members here are considerate and supportive that they are 'safe'. In all probability, they are, but it's impossible to be sure. If you plan on meeting another member, meet her in a public place until you feel comfortable enough to go to each other's homes.

There have been many meetings among Hyster Sisters. Most have been in a group setting at a restaurant and have all resulted in everyone having a wonderful time. Group meetings are encouraged, and the neighborhood forums are a great way to meet other Hyster Sisters.

Repeated from a previous post by Catherine at Hystersisters. Thanks Catherine you said it so well.
