bloated?
I'm overweight and when I was in the hospital they asked if I felt bloated and I said "no", that I'm just big. But, I just weighed myself and I've gained 10 lbs eek! Is it water and will go away soon?
I feel pretty good. I'm not driving yet and I'm still taking pain meds so I'm staying home but I'm bored.

Re: bloated?
This is totally normal. They pump you full of fluids while in the hospital and it takes quite a while for your body to get rid of the extra fluids. You might experience some swelling of your tummy too and that can hang around for a few weeks to a few months but eventually, it will go away.
Ask your doctor about driving. Mine wanted me to stay out of cars as he had a patient get into an accident shortly after she went home. I gathered it was quite the mess to fix. That scared me enough to only go in a car when I really had to. I didn't drive until 4 weeks post-op. The other thing I thought about is that if you aren't released by your doctor to drive and you get into an accident, your insurance might not cover you so it is best to ask your doctor about when you are released to drive.
In the meantime, take good care of yourself by eating well, drinking lots of water, walking as much as your body will let you (when you feel heaviness at the bottom of your tummy, that means it is time to go horizontal) and rest a lot.
Take care!

Re: bloated?
I am overweight myself. I am 6 wks post op.
For most of it I did not have much of an appetite, so I thought I would lose weight, but it says I weight the same.
I felt bloated most of the time, usually as the day went on from doing stuff throughout the day. It is getting much better now. I know some days it may come back up, but it does not seem to be an everyday thing.
I was in so much pain and so tired all the time before surgery, I never had the energy to do much. Now I am feeling better each day and doing more than I have in a long time. I know weight can be an issue, but I figure I am going to just try to focus on being more active now that I can.
As far as driving, my DR gave me strict instructions not to do so until I was off the pain meds for a while. I think it was about 3/4 weeks until I felt comfortable enough to drive. I was off pain meds at 2 wks, but they can stay with ya for a while.
Do get out someplace if you can though. My DH took me to the lake after about 2 wks and it did me a world of good.
Wishing a speeding recovery((HUGS)) Michelle
