5 wk post hysterectomy pain

I'm 5 weeks post op and wondering if "normal" to feel pain daily that feels like menstrual cramps and Braxton-hicks (like mild labour contractions) pain combined. It goes from mild to requiring Advil. I have a high pain tolerance, have had 2 laparoscopies to treat endo, had 3 vaginal births so I have experienced lots of pain before. I know that recovery is not without pain but I sometimes worry there's more going on inside of me. Anyone else experiencing similar??

Re: 5 wk post op pain

I had those also about same time. Are you spotting at all? What I found was that my stitches were dissolving, and the tissue healing itself. I would even pass a few threads.

Re: 5 wk post op pain

Thankfully no spotting! It's tough to decider what is causing what. I also had excision of endo at the time of surgery close to bowel & now I just remembered surgeon said when cervix was removed nerves were cut and those nerves are on same pathway as bowel, hence back pain. I have IBS too which isn't better. All in all, feeling very grateful & feeling my prayers were answered in terms of no complications/infection etc. Maybe I'm just a bit impatient with my progress or a wee bit worried when I hear others are much farther along in terms of being pain free. Thanks for your help!

Re: 5 wk post op pain

I also feel pain now at almost 6 weeks post op and I had no pain initially. I also had bladder repair as well as hernia repair. I have my 6 week check up
On Friday and I'll be sure to ask. Pain is mostly around my belly button area.

Re: 5 wk post op pain

I had endo excision from the bowel, bladder and body cavity. My cervix and the outside of my uterus was "peppered" with endo. I also had and still have IBS (better controlled now). I still had pain at 5 weeks post op. I never gave birth so I don't know about that or labor pains, but I am excessively well-versed in the pain of menstrual cramps. I had some feelings like that at 5 months. If it is something that Advil can control, then chances are you are healing at a good rate considering the surgery you had. However, it might be a good idea to give the doc a call tomorrow just to let him/her know what's going on and to get some peace of mind.

Re: 5 wk post hysterectomy pain

I will be sure to do that. With everything that I had done, plus the removal of a bit of scar tissue that the Dr wasn't sure where it came from, I am recovering exceptionally well. But 3 weeks post op my husband had to go back on the road with work travel so I've lifted my share of grocery bags, bent from the waist more times than I can count, and am taking care of my 3 kids 5, 7 & 10. I'm sure I've done too much so this week I'll be slowing it all the way DOWN until my appt with the surgeon
