massage post hysterectomy

I'm wondering if anyone has had a massage after having surgery? I'm 10 days post op now, and feeling well. Just not sure if it's a good idea to be lying on my tummy for half an hour... even though things feel fine. thoughts?

Re: massage post hysterectomy

I have no factual information about this, but I would definitely avoid a massage at such an early stage. The last thing you want to do is stimulate blood flow, and lying on your front for any length of time would probably be quite painful.

Maybe ask your doctor about it when you have your first check-up?

Re: massage post hysterectomy

I got my staples out at 13 days post-op and slept on my stomach that night (and every night afterwards, it's my preferred position). I'd suggest trying (cautiously) to lie on your stomach at home and then seeing how long you can stay in that position. Desist the moment your body starts to complain! This will tell you whether or not you're ready for a massage.

I'd also suggest that if you go for a massage, you *not* allow the therapist to massage your abdominal area.

Re: massage post hysterectomy

I agree with the sisters. It is going to depend on if you have been able to lay on your stomach comfortable and definately do not have them massage that area.

In my recovery at that time, I had just mastered sleeping flat on my stomach and it was heaven yet I still have to be careful.

Re: massage post hysterectomy

Thanks sisters! yes, definitely won't have them massaging my stomach area - and i'll see what they can do without me lying on my stomach for too long.
thanks for the input
