Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

I pulled the following from a long ago post because it is a close question I have. After you read this go further down to the question I have:

Was wondering if any of you hypothyroid sisters out there were taking Cytomel for low T3 or just adding Selenium supplements?

Am on Sythroid (previously Armour but the T3 got too high with the large dose of T4 needed) and my T3 is too low, so dr is advising adding 200 mcg/day of Selenium to see if it works in raising T3 and also raising T4 (low) and lowering TSH (high).

The option of adding Cytomel is only considered after 6 weeks on the Selenium and retesting bloodwork. Has anyone fixed low T3 with just Selenium supplementation? Or has everyone with my problem ended up on Cytomel? Does raising the T3 really affect T4 and TSH levels too? I read something about a timed release T3 that worked better, but don't know the name of that medication. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks

After having a Hysterectomy back in 1993. I moved to a new town and was told by a doctor that my Thyroids had to be taken out due to specks of cancer...to this day I feel it was a mistake but my problem is since the time I had them taken I have become hypo when before I was hyper I think this was because my hormones were if. The problem is no matter what I do I can't raise my T3 like other people can all day long especially those on Armour will I have a problem with Armour and anything else I try and take including Cytomel becuase it just won't work. Is their help is it because I had a hysterectomy????

Re: Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

I think the timed release T3 is a compounded formulation. If you have a compounding pharmacy in your area, call them to find out about it.

Re: Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

I tried using Selenium to raise my T3 and after 8 weeks, it was at the same level (while using Synthroid).

I am now using 180 mg Armour thyroid, split into 3 doses of 60mg each. My T3 is now a bit higher than my endocrinologist would like and my T4 is lower than she'd like. My TSH is very low. She would like to switch me back to Synthroid or equivalent but I always felt lousy on it in the past. She agreed to let me wait a year since we're also dealing with the other HRT issues and we want them all stabilized before changing anything more.

Re: Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

I can't seem to take Armour it hurts my lower back and I just don't know why but I know it's not Adrenal problems cause I had checked. What is it that makes me unable to take Armour?

Re: Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

Have never heard of Armour affecting the lower back. That's strange. Have you asked an endocrinologist about it?

What about taking part Armour, part Synthroid?

Re: Can't raise my T3 level no matter what I do

I live in Nebraska and Armour is impossible to get here now. The pharmacists are saying it's out of production. A friend of mine was able to find 3 months worth, but after that she's not sure what she will do.
