Is anyone having problem with TAH scar 5 months later?

Hi Sisters~

I had my TAH 5 months ago and feel great!

EXCEPT....my scar has been bothering me on my "LEFT - SIDE"

It feels like their is a "Plastic Price Tag" is stuck in there.
(I read on-line that this may be the "disouable stitches")

PLEASE help....is anybody else had similar problems with this?

I just lost my medical insurance, so I am really scared

So, I don't know what to do here....not sure if my surgeon will see me for free check-up?

Thank you,
URF

I'm sorry you're going through this!
I'm new to the country and have no idea how your insurance and medical system works here, wish I had advice for you. Just wanted you to know that there is someone out there that cares.

Hi -- I'm so sorry you've lost your medical insurance and feel so alone with this. I also had a TAH and had the dissolvable stiches. If you're feeling a sharp plastic thread sticking out of the end of your incision, it is one of the stitches. Mine stuck out pretty far so I took a very clean scissors and just snipped them pretty close to the skin (be very careful not to get too close). There are knots at each end which made both ends of my incision a little more sore and inflamed. I also put neosporin on the ends after I snipped the suture. If anything more than this is happening, as in lots of redness, warmth, and swelling, I'd call your surgeon's office and talk to one of the nurses for advice. They aren't going to charge you anything for phone calls. Hope this helps!!

Hi Tabs and Jobo!

Thank you for your kind words!

Jobo,
I had my TAH 5 months ago....when did you notice your stitch coming out?

I thought these things were supposed to be disolved already?

Thanks sisters!

I noticed my stitches sticking out very early -- about 1 week post-op. But my daughter had some plastic surgery on her scalp over the summer, and her sutures never dissolved like they were supposed to. I'm guessing that only the parts of the sutures that are completely within your skin dissolve, and that the parts that stick out into the air will just exist until whatever they are attached to on the inside dissolves. But if you are concerned, most definitely call your surgeon or GPs office. Hugs!!

Hi jobo,
Thanks for clarifying that for me.
I will call the surgeon for a follow-up visit and let you know.
Thanks again!
