Medication and another question

What type of pain meds are they likely to send home with me after the surgery? And, I'm reading that it's very possible that with the loss of the ovaries that my personal lubrication will be essentially a thing of the past. Will the doctor prescribe something for that or will I be forever using KY or some such? Thanks in advance for answers.

Medication and another question

Hi Subway,

I had a TVH on 1/31 and I was sent home from the hospital with percocet for the pain. I did not really need them after about 3-4 days that and they can add to the possibility of constipation. I switched to the ibuprofen 600mg every 4/5 hours and it is working well, but I do know when it is getting closer to time to take it.
I kept my ovaries but I have heard both ways about lubrication, that you loose it and that it is not an issue. You may get some better info in the sexual dysfunction pages from ladies who have been in the situation and can answer you from their own experience.
Good luck!

They sent me home with Lorcet, enough to last a week...I called and got a refill for another 2 weeks....Depending on many factors, age, you can ask your dr. if you have dryness....

Good Luck

I was sent home with vicodin, but quit taking it after a day or so. I was really not in pain and they do contribute to constipation.
I started taking advil today. I am not in pain, but am hoping it will help with the swelling.

Thank you all for your answers. I appreciate them. I just found out that shortly after my hyst on the 18th my older brother who is 48 will be having open heart surgery to replace a valve in his heart. My parents are having a tough time knowing two of their children are going to be under the knife within 2 weeks of each other.

Medication and another question

Hi!

It seems that most (((sisters))) get prescribed vicodin (that was me), percoset, or something similar after surgery. Many ladies don't need a refill of the meds, but some (like me) do need to stay on them a bit longer.

As for lubrication, you may or may not have difficulties in this area after surgery. (I kept my ovaries, but I still had lubrication issues. ) There are lots of personal lubricants available -- in fact, the Hyster Sisters store even sells one. My best advice there is to wait and see if you actually have an issue, and then keep trying different products until you find the one that works best for you.

Best wishes to you.
