LAVH 16 days post hysterectomy and very emotional

Hi everyone,
I had a LAVH on April 21st (my 39th birthday!). The first few days were really rough and then I started to feel a bit better. I didn't do too much (I think) and then was right back at square 1. I have been trying really hard to be good and just lay in bed and let my body heal. I have been really struggling with feeling like I am just being lazy! I know I just had major surgery but with a LAVH it doesn't always feel like it. Today was my first real day of going out and running a few errands. Now I am lying in bed, in pain, dizzy and shaky! I am so emotional and have just been crying! I am hoping I am not alone in feeling this way. I have no idea how much is too much or what I shouldn't be doing (outside of the major things). This is so hard!

Re: LAVH 16 days out and very emotional

It is hard. Having had a LAVH, I can assure you that it is still major surgery, and you are barely over two weeks out. I didn't leave the house the entire first week. I just walked around a bit every hour or so. I lost both ovaries so surgical menopause hit hard and fast. I cried over Puppy chow commercials and yelled at DH for walking to loud. I was tired and couldn't sleep. By the second week, I saw my doc on day 10, and I felt better. I was able to drive, but just going to the drugstore and buying one thing left me exhausted. On the inside your body has gone through having an organ removed. That's a huge deal. You need to rest when your body tells you too. That's how you heal. You are likely a bit emotional as even though you kept one or both ovaries, they may not be working yet. They sort of "go to sleep" after surgery and leave you with menopause symptoms. It is because they often lose part or their blood supply and need time to re-establish it. Don't feel bad. Just settle in and know that for a couple weeks your job is just to heal.
