Is this normal?

I had an emergency hysterectomy Feb 25, so I guess that's five weeks and a couple days ago. Doc took my uterus/cervix, and left me with something they called a "vault" (just sewed the vagina closed at the top). I had no bleeding whatsoever postop, but lately when I wipe after using the facilities, there's yellow-ish mucuousy discharge, and yesterday/today there was a hint of darkish blood. I'm really worried that maybe I'm not healing properly inside. Or maybe I "popped" a stitch or something? Also, when I cough or sneeze, it still hurts inside.

Should I be worried at all?

Is this normal?

Hello and !

I'm sorry you had to have an emergency hysterectomy and I hope your recovery is going well.

I didn't have any discharge or bleeding after my surgery; some ladies do and some don't. When your stitches start dissolving during the healing process, you can experience light bleeding and/or discharge.

If you have bleeding that is heavier than a period or bright red blood, you should call your doctor immediately. If it is just a little dark blood, it is probably just part of the healing processand nothing to worry about, and to put your mind at ease, you should call your doctor.

If you have time, please read through Checkpoints and Post-Op Articles. You will find a lot of fantastic information to help you through recovery and beyond! Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Is this normal?

I'm 3 weeks post-op this Wed. I still have some mimi bleeding. Mine is a brownish colour. I knew this could happen, and have seen where some ladies report this up until the 6th. week mark post-op.

I notice mine more at night . Not sure why but that is when it happenes.

Is this normal?

I also had some icky colored discharge, at about 7-8 weeks, and yes, it can be normal. My doctor told me if I wasnt sure about it to go in. It was all normal. If it smells funky, or you get other symptoms, get in to see your doc. And this goes for a few months down the road. Easier to see a doc and hear its nothing than to have a raging infection that is hard to fix!!

Is this normal?

At 3 weeks, I had the yellowish discharge, thought it was the healing. Dr. said yeast infection. However, I didn't have the bloody look at all, just the thickish yellow stuff. He presc. Diflucan.

Is this normal?

Hi,

I will be three weeks on Friday and still have the yellow discharge (which is a yeast infection) plus an infection on my perinium stitches since I had to get the A & P repair at the same time. These have been goin n since I came out of hospital. Today is my last day of pills and I do not feel much better down there. Still leaking, still burning when I go pee, etc. Guess I will need to go to the doctors again.

Don't hesitate to go and see, because the longer your infection stays, the longer the healing process. I feel like I have lost three weeks of healing. Yesterday was a good day, but today is just painful.

The yellowish discharge could be caused by granulation tissue. This is a small patch on the vaginal cuff where you were stitched which has not healed completely. Let the doctor have a look. If it is granulation they will put some silver nitrate on it and clear it up.
