Itchy red welts around incisions

Hi, all -
I had my LSH on Friday, August 15th. I think everything went pretty well other than some pesky post op nausea and vomitting - anestesia and narcotics don't go well with me!

Anyway I came home Sunday, and Monday I noticed that I have large (3 inch) red itchy welts around my lower incisions. I think it may be an allergic reaction to the steri-strips. Has anyone had this happen? What did you do? I have an appt to see my doctor about it tomorrow. But I would love to have an idea what to expect.

Thanks for all of the support! I hope that everyone is doing well and taking it easy!

Cindy

I had my LSH on 7/1 and experienced a red itchy rash about the same, and yes, I believe it was a reaction to the adhesive in the steristrips. At my two week checkup, doctor advised to rub vitamin E oil into skin. It actually took about a month for it to go away. However, you might want to check with your doctor before applying anything around incision area. Hope this helps.

They are definately red that soon after surgery! Your doctor might remove the steri-strips, 2 of mine fell off the 2nd day(I have 5 incisions, had LSH, too) which my doctor said was fine. I saw him at 10 days post-op and had removed the other 3 the day before. He will gently examine them, I had what felt like a little knot of plastic sticking out of one, and he clipped it off. He made sure they weren't infected. The first few days when I showered the doctor advised me to use a blow dryer on a low setting to get and keep them dry.

Thanks for your replies! I'm back from the doctor's office and that was a minor ordeal. After sitting for an hour and a half in the waiting room, my husband asked how much longer it would be and the receptionist (a different girl from when we checked in) said, "Oh, did you just get here?" The girl who supposedly checked us in didn't tell anyone we were there!!!! This was all after getting up at 5:30 a.m. in order to drive the 1 1/2 hours to my doctor's office. Ugh!

Well, it is a nasty allergic reaction. My doctor removed the steri strips and recommended I keep the sores open to the air so that the blisters can start to dry out. She also ordered a topical steroid to put on.

I hope this is my only bump in the road, 'cause just plain old recovering is really enough for me! Outside of the allergic reaction though I'm feeling pretty good. Just tired and a little sore.
