Keep Overies??

I am having my TAH on Nov. 1st and am unsure as to keep my ovaries or not? Dr. explained to me the benefits of both. Both ovaries are fine right now. I do have quite a bot of cancer in my family so I am thinking that removing them is the best thing while he's at it!? I am scared about the HRT though. I have a 10 & 2 yr. old and do not want to be on an emotional roller coaster at 29 yrs. old and at these precious times in their lives! Help? Any advice?

Thanks!

Keep Overies??

Hi there Minette,

My doctor has left it up to me whether to keep my ovaries or not, too. My surgery is in October. My personal opinion is to keep them unless there is something wrong with them. Is the cancer in your family ovarian cancer?

Keep Overies??

Hi Viola,

No, ovarian cancer is not in my family as far as I know. I don't know much about my father's side though. He passed away from cancer as did several other family members. My aunt (father's sister) has breast cancer. Again, my Dr. is leaving it up to me. I would like to learn more about the benefits of both.

Good luck to you and thanks!

Keep them!

I wen through the same thing, wondering of I should keep them. Ovarian cancer runs on my father's side, so my chances are slimmer than if it was on my mother's side. My dr. said 1-70 women get ovarian cancer anyway. So, she advised to keep them since I am 37 and to have an ultrasound at my yearly check ups. If they are healthy, by all means keep them.

Keep Overies??

Thanks a lot! That makes me feel better. No ovarian cancer on my mother's side. All "female problems" come from my father's side but, those are some strong statisticts.

I kept mine!

I kept my ovaries. I'm 35 and didn't want to be on hrt for a long time. My doctor felt the same way. Thank god he was able to save both of them because they were stuck to my uterus with scar tissure.

Why are you having the hyst? I have endo and my chances of a recurrence are greater leaving them in. But I if I need to remove at a later date the surgery is not invasive.

Good luck with your decision.

Keep Overies??

Thanks for you reply Rosalind. I am having the hyst. due to Adenomyosis, Endometriosis and severe pelvic pain obviously. My uterus is the size of a 3 mo. pregnancy right now. Has grown in the last 2 months. I do not want more kids right now and have high BP and have not been able to stay on BC pills and have had terrible pregnancies so my Dr. suggested the hyst. I am leaning more towards not having them out, it sounds better than the HRT huh?

Thanks!

I kept mine!

Minette,

I think that keeping your ovaries has some definite advantages. I will tell you how I decided. I researched everything. I read stories from woman who did and didn't. I researched the web. I went to everysite that was about endo. I even researched Hormone Replacement.

For me, I knew that I didn't want to be 35 and on estrogen. But remember this is a personal decision and what may be right for me may not be right for you. Talk to your doctor! But know that there is no wrong decision. The decision you make will be right for you at the time.

Good Luck and Keep me posted!
Rosalind
