oh so tired

So i am just over seven weeks post op. Have finished my first week back at work mornings part time and i am shattered. Feel completely drained and exhausted and cannot stop crying. Everyone tells me this is normal but i just want to be well again :-(

Re: oh so tired

This is a TOUGH surgery!! I don't know how anyone could be fully prepared for what happens to us physically and emotionally after this. All I can say is that you need to continue to be kind to yourself - make time for rest and time for crying - and know that at some point you'll feel much better and will be able to look back on this as nothing more than a memory.

Let me also tell you that as tough as it seems right now, you might look back and actually be thankful for the experience and what you learn about yourself and your attitudes toward life, others, and yourself.

Re: oh so tired

My doctor just gave me one more week off because of bladder issues and anemia. I am really afraid after next week because I just don't have the energy to work. I went to a couple of meetings for a board that I sit on this week and everyone could see how uncomfortable I was and told me to go home. It was a very relaxed setting where I could put my head down, but when I go to work its all business. I can only do 3..maybe 4 hour spurts. But, I really feel encouraged because I see with enough will power it can be done. MadaboutPink, I hope next week is better for you and I wish you well!!!

Re: oh so tired

Thank you for your support. I was beginning to wonder if i am abnormal as i have spoken to peole who cannot understand why i am not doing everything for myself and back at work full time because they/a friend etc were at this stage. Some people are making me feel like a bit of a fraud.
Gigih ~ good luck with going back to work. Pace yoursrlf and dont try to do to much too soon. Xx

Re: oh so tired

thank you for this post! I am at 4 week post op and at this point find it hard to imagine that in two weeks i'll be back at work. I walked to the local shops yesterday - about 2kms round trip, but still rest for 1/2 of the day, I feel mentally and physically weak. I wonder if I am a sook.

Your post has given me insight into how draining work could be. I work full-time and i was considering asking for shorter hours initially, your post has given me pause for thought. thanks

Re: oh so tired

I'm just past six weeks, and I still get fatigued VERY easily. I was supposed to go back to work on Monday, but when I saw my doctor today I asked him to clear me for only half days for the first two weeks. I know I couldn't manage 8 hours behind a desk right now. I still get very sore when I sit for more than 2-3 hours at a time, not to mention the exhaustion. Hopefully by the end of two weeks I'll start getting my energy back.

I feel your pain.

Re: oh so tired

Mb99 i would definately advise part time. Also make sure you are comfortable and move whem you need to. I underestimated how i would feel and am now paying for it. I really didnt realise i would be so exhausted. Good luck whem you do return.
Fenchurch42 i also work at a desk and find that i need to get up and move every so often. Thankfully i have a great boss that understands that i need time. I have one more week of part time then go back for a check up. Thinking i might need more part time. Good luck and remeber to make sure you are comfortable. Xx
