I would like to know of any ideas on why it may be so hard for me to fall asleep - definitely can't take naps & very hard to fall asleep @ night. For me anyway, it's not due to discomfort. Also I've delveloped stange pain in my rib cage all the way around but more so on my right side. Last night it even hurt to breathe. Any thoughts?

I am having the same issue with sleeping. It is a little better however some nights I lay there for hours. I have heard it is normal after this surgery however I don't know the medical reason. Placing a pillow under my knees helps and elevating my head some has helped. I don't know why. It could be worth a try.

Just wanted to say you are not alone.

I asked my dr at my 2 week about the weird pains I had around my rib cage and he said it was probably the gas they pumped into me for the LAVH/BSO. I had a horrible time sleeping but now that I just passed the 7 week mark it has gotten better. To ease your mind you should call your dr. I also agree with Donna I slept better when I put a pillow under my knews and elevated my head

Hi,

I have had trouble sleeping and I find what works for me is Tylenol P.M. My doctor said it is non-habit forming so it is safe to take every night. As for the rib aches, that is common too. I had my tvh on 1/24 and the rib thing was awful. I think I made it worse because when I went to cough or sneeze I kind of tried to deflect it and wound up pulling muscles on my side. Tried to make one thing better-but made another problem. Don't worry my friend, this too will pass. I would say by the second week the whole side and back thing got better. Do try the tylenol p.m. It does help. Take care!!

The first thing that popped into my head when you described your rib pain was "shingles."
