3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

OK, I have my 3 week post-op check up coming up and I am SO nervous. A little backround...I went 9 years without an OB appointment and honestly don't know how long I would have waited if I hadn't had the issues that led to my Lap. Hyst. (uterus, ovaries gone...cervix was supposed to go, but too close to bladder and Dr. didn't want to chance bladder damage). SOOO...now I'm supposed to go for this follow up and I am VERY nervous! Will there be cramping? Pain during exam? I know this is bad, but I am actually considering canceling the appointment so I can wait a little longer to heal...Advice...Please???? I'm usually a pretty tough chick, LOL.

Re: 3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

When I had my 2 week the dr. only looked at my incisions but I didn't have anything done through my vagina. She asked me questions and answered any I had.

I think most drs pretty much do this type of thing unless there is a problem and they need to look up there. Maybe you can ask the office if they are going to do a pelvic or not. If not then you have nothing to worry about.

Re: 3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

I am almost 6 weeks post op (LAVH/bladder sling) and when I went in for my 2 week post op my doc did a pelvic and used a speculum - I was not expecting it, but have to say it was not painful at all. I was actually surprised I had any feeling at all, but I did and the exam was painless for me.

Good luck!

Re: 3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

I was the same way as you! I never had an abnormal pap so I would go YEARS without getting a smear because I hated it so much.

Looking back now I wish I would have been more attentive to my female parts, by the time they found my fibroids they were HUGE and my uterus was enlarged. It was blocking my ability to have bowel movements and urinate, not to mention the horrible bleeding every month.

My 2 week check was going over how I was feeling and checking stitches. I'm coming up on my 6 week which will be an internal exam....the way I look at it, I've been through so much so far a little uncomfortable exam will be nothing

Re: 3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

My stitches came out at my 1 week appointment and he told me he would be doing an exam at my 3 week to check how I'm healing inside. It's amazing how Dr.'s have different time frames that they do things. I've read a lot about 2 week, 4 week and 6 week appointments, but mine is 1, 3 and 6 week....interesting.

6 weeks would be a nice wait for me, LOL. I'll see how I'm feeling before I decide whether or not I'm ready for an exam. My instincts are usually pretty good ).

I had my two week exam last week. He did look inside, and there was no pain at all. Its not bad, and the doc knows what he can and can not do. You should keep up with your appointments! Trust your doctor.

Re: 3 week post op check up soon--NERVOUS!

Thank you! I think I'm nervous because the Dr. told me the biopsy would be fine and it was AWFUL!! So I just think he is not the most gentle one out there. I won't cancel, you're right...I need to express my feelings to him and trust what he says I need. Again, Thanks!
