TAH Question about bowel movement issues 5 days post hysterectomy

I am 5 days post op from Radical abdominal hysterectomy. I am extremely uncomfortable. Still no bowel movements. I am on Colace and Miralax. I have been drinking water and walking. Doctor suggested that I not take my pain meds to see if that helps. So I am in some pain as well. Any suggestions???

Try prune juice. That usually does the trick. Also, were you prescribed ibuprofen? That should not affect bowel movement like narcotics can.

I feel your pain-literally. I had mine on the 9th. I still haven't gone and am doing the exact same things you are. I hate to cut back, too, on my pain medicine because I still have pain. Best of luck to you!

I remember that feeling very well! I stopped taking the narcotics on day 3, and still didn't have my first bowel movement until day 6. In addition to regular walks and prune juice, what helped me included peppermint tea with my breakfast, and a green smoothie with cherries and ground flaxseeds as an afternoon snack. Greens are high in magnesium, which can help to get your bowels moving; also try a magnesium supplement, or some dark chocolate, another excellent source. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Milk of magnesia did it for me. Yet it still took 7 days. Yikes!! The doc only told me to take stool softners. Right...

Try chia seeds on yogurt, it worked for me!
