Is larger underwear really necessary?

I am preparing for my upcoming surgery and wondered is larger underwear really necessary? How big should I buy and about how long will I need to wear them.

I picked up a robe today at Walmart and my mom got me a few nightshirts.

Is larger underwear really necessary?

Hi Psloc

Your abd area will be swollen- any where from 1 size larger to 2-3 sizes larger.. Who can say??? We are all different.

And some ladies hardly swell at all....so whats a princess to be to do?

I bought Love Pats at Wallmart.....really cheap 3 for under $5. they are a micro fiber panty that will stretch up to 3 sizes bigger. I sort of figured that would cover the bases.

The only reason I bothered is cuz sometimes there a small amount of discharge- and I wanted something to stick the pany liner to. But If there is no discharge I wont bother with underwear unless I have to go out in public, like an MD appointment. au natural is more comfortable....at least I think so.

I didn't buy any larger panties for post surgery--but I don't like underwear tight to begin with. I used the stained (& somewhat stretched out) ones I had. After I recovered enough--then I got the new underwear!!

Hiya,
I would recommend big pants, mainly so they won't rub on your scar post op.
I wore mine for about a month, but it depends on you really!

I didn't swell at all, and wore the same jeans I had gone into hospital in, back out again. And I had a TAH, five hours with complications op.

Everyone is different though.
Good luck

Is larger underwear really necessary?

I was asking this saime question about three months ago. Although I did not swell very much I wanted panties that stretched if I did. Love pats were recommended but my Walmart did not carrry them. I found some very comfy stretchy panties at TJ Maxx. They are by Bali and are called Barely There. Expensive if puschased full price, but resonable at Marshalls or TJ's The most comfortable I have ever worn and because they stretch, they do not need to be a larger size.
I hope this helps.

I took many of you'alls advice and purchased "big" panties. It was really tough - I like bikinis. I have also starting buying velour lounging pants and tops because I thought they would be comfortable about the house. Am I thinking right? Or would you girls suggest something else that would be more comfortable? I don't believe I would like laying about in pajamas all day.

Is larger underwear really necessary?

Hi

I didn't buy any larger ones. My uterus was so big that post op the swelling didn't make my abdomen seem much different. But I also don't wear bikini underwear, so I didn't have to worry about them rubbing on my incision.

I lived in sweats for almost the entire 6 weeks. I could wear my jeans beginning at about 2 weeks, if I was leaving the house, but otherwise it was sweats.

A recommendation is to wear pj's as long as possible because it reminds your family/friends that you are recovering from major surgery. They tend to forget once you are wearing "regular" clothes.

Is larger underwear really necessary?

I personally own pajama bottoms or flannel lounge pants and that is what i will wear around the house with t shirt or sweat shirt and i already own i think like 4 pairs so ill always have ones clean.I think i will wear my old undiesss at first and new ones that my mom gave me that are like 2 sizes to big for me that are sitting in abag in my closet...but everyone is diffrent but i think its better to be safe then sorry..I know when i had my back surgery i went and bought low cut briefs and a size bigger cause i didnt know how long my insision would be so i just played it safe that way you have them handy and dont have to worry about running to the store post op or having someone run for you and get the wrong ones..hope this helps ya.

I bought bigger panties and didn't really need them. Since I've been home I where whatever panties I want to. My incisian area isn't wear my panties push anyway. As matter of fact I like having something close to my stomach. It feels better. I had bought some baggy house dresses to wear and I can't stand them either. I have been wearing regular knit pants and my usual t-shirts. I didn't need to make any changes.
