Trying to make decision on hyst

Hi everyone, I'm new here on the boards. I'm 41 and have had so many other medical problems, that my doctor is trying to convince me to take medication instead of either a parital or complete hysterectomy. I'm a disabled veteran so I go to the VA hospital for medical treatment. The doctor I have right now, may or may not be the doctor that does surgery, should I elect that. I have an appt tomorrow and I plan on telling him that I want the complete hysterectomy. The thought of going into full blown menopause scares the heck out of me, but no more than the thought of cancer if I keep my ovaries.

Can anyone recommend anything for me to read tonight, prior to going to see the doctor with my decision? I am prepared to have to fight him for the surgery, but would like to have documentation to back up my decision.

You didn't say what your diagnosis is that makes you consider a hyst. I hope you are able to find some answers at your doc appointment today.

Like (((Twyla))) I'm wondering what gynecological issues have led you to conclude that you need to have a hyst. Fill us in a little more on what your problems have been and we'll do our best to provide support.
