Had my preop today.....

Hi everyone,

I had my preop today. I was there forever because my doc was running behind. No biggie!

First, I met with the surgery coordinator. I got a ton of info. Found out more about recovery and such. I will have a PCA if I have a TAH but not if it is TLH. Hospital 24 hrs for TLH but till Friday if it is TAH. I asked the coordinator if it is common to be canceled on or postponed, she said no, it very rarely happens. The hospital is very good about staying on schedule but we may be a tad later or earlier. She told me my husband should not expect to see the doc for 3-3.5 hours after the surgery starts.

Then, I met with the doc. As I Said before, I really like my doctor. I trust her. First, I asked her if the parts would be pulled out through the lap holes, she said no, it would be pulled through the vagina. But, it is not a LAVH because everything is done through the lap, she does not go through the vagina to do any "surgery". I then asked her what the chances of having it lap vs abdominal were....she said it is difficult to say. They usually say 1 in 5 of their TLH get converted if the woman has not had any previous abdominal surgery. But, in my case, with 5 previous surgeries, it would probably be higher chance of open. Of course, she won't know until she gets in there.

So, I am so nervous now.....I just can't believe it is right around the corner. WOWWWW!!! WIsh me luck!

Good luck on Monday. I go to the Doctor's on Monday to ask more questions and to schedule my surgery. Your surgery sounds a lot like what I am anticipating. I kind of know what the plan is but it could all change once the Doctor gets in there. I will also be having a regular surgeon in the OR with my Gyno because they are concerned about adhesions from 3 prior hernia surgeries. I am doing the research thing right now so I can have all my questions ready for Monday. What does PCA and and TLH stand for? There is so much to learn and I want to be well informed.

It sounds like you had an informative pre-op. I like to know what to expect too - even if it's sometimes kinda scary

The day will arrive before you know it! Sounds like you're in good hands.
I was really surprised how quickly the op came and went.
It was like blinking my eyes! I was scheduled early in the morning, and I was prepped and ready so fast my husband barely had time to see me first!
Everybody was so nice and peppy in the pre-op, too. It really relieved my anxiety.(I almost went AWOL the night before, I was so nervous!)
What time of day is your surgery?

So glad to hear that your pre-op went well. That is great that you feel so comfortable with your doctor. I think that counts for more than anything. I hope that they are able to do the TLH for you. Best of luck to you. I hope that your surgery goes great and you have a quick and easy recovery.
