Surg date 9/9 - need advice on ovaries

I am sched for surg 9/9 due to abnormal uterine bleeding. I am 50 y.o. and have history of high blood pressure, migraines, and stroke 2 years ago so that hormone therapy to control bleeding was ruled out. At my pre-op visit my internist (a female) suggested I consider having my ovaries removed due to my age and the risk of ovarian cancer. She said if I were 40 she wouldn't have suggested it. When I asked the gyn he said why not the ovaries aren't working right anyway. He said I might wake up having hot flashes. I havn't had much trouble so far with them at all. I take remifemin and essential woman oil (soy/flax combo). And even before all the flak HRT was not an option for me.
I signed the consent to have the ovaries removed but now I am having second thoughts. Can anyone out there help?

I can't give you any better information than the information contained in this thread:

I also read this recently about ovarian cancer. Removing the ovaries lowers the risk of ovarian cancer a great deal but does not eliminate it entirely since cancer can still form in the cells lining the pelvic cavity where the ovaries were located. And although it doesn't happen often, the possiblity is still there.

This is a difficult decision, and only one that you can make. You still have a few days to read everything you can about it and make your decision based on your research.

Best wishes,
