When will my swollen belly go away?
I miss my old pants!! I have been wearing the same couple of pair of pants for the last three weeks that have a looser waist line.
When I put on an slightly tighter pair of pants, things get sore.
How long has it typically taken people to get rid of the swollen belly associated with surgery?
(I had a TAH three weeks ago)

Re: When will my swollen belly go away?
I had my TAH/BSO On June 25th, so I know how you feel. I had an abdominal surgery to remove some endo and scar tissue in March and it was at least 6 to 8 weeks before I could wear my "normal" clothes again. I havent even tried to put on my jeans. I just wear the loosest pair of pants I have. I dont mean to dampen your spirits, but take it one day at a time. Your still in recovery. I learned from last surgery that at 3 weeks out (even 4 weeks out) its too soon to worry about my clothes fitting again. Keep takin it easy.
Hope you feel better soon!!!

Re: When will my swollen belly go away?
Robin,
Unfortunately cakelady is right... it's probably going to be a while before you can fit into "normal" pants again. Maybe that's a good thing though, it's a reminder that while you're feeling better, you're not all better on the inside and you do need to continue to rest, relax, and pamper yourself princess!
If feeling like you're constantly dressed down is dampening your spirits how about buying a couple loose fitting maxi skirts or dresses to enjoy what remains of summer in? The wasteband won't be an issue and you're bound to feel sexy!

I was told 6 months to 1 year for the swell belly to be all the way gone. Mine was gone around the 5th month.

Re: When will my swollen belly go away?
My surgery was April 9 2009, about 3 mos ago and I still have swelly belly. I cannot wear pants with zippers and buttons, actually I have been wearing maternity pants as they are very comfortable on my stomach. It is swollen but it really gets swollen by the end of the day. I am back at work, was off for 7 weeks and I do alot of heavy lifting I kind of thought that had something to do with the swelling. Yeah I think it is going to stick around for a while just another part of the recovery.
