New and worried

I posted this as a "reply" because I didn't know how to post it as a separate thread.

I'm new to this site, and at age 56, thought I was completely through menopause. Ha! An extended period of bleeding which ended only after my DR told me to double my HRT! Then I had an ultrasound which showed complex ovarian cysts with possibility of ovarian cancer. My gyn has said I need a hysterectomy and referred me to an oncologist-gynocologist surgeon, who I will see this week. I am also going down to the Mayo Clinic the next day for a second surgical opinion pre-surgery. My brain seems to have stopped working regarding normal things: I let a perfectly good saucepan filled with sugarwater for the hummingbirds burn down to carbon, setting off the smoke alarm, before I remembered it was on the stove! I seem to either worry about the surgery, or about the possibility of cancer. I've spent the last year recovering from bilateral knee replacements, and was due to start a new job on Aug. 18, which is now on hold. It feels like everything is on hold. I am grateful for the different threads and postings, because I've already made up a list of questions to ask the surgeon. Any suggestions you might have for my particular situation would also be appreciated.

New & worried

Try not to worry. The forgetfulness and distraction seem to be a normal side-effect of the pre-op stress. I've been easily distracted going from one activity to the next until DH reels me in.

My surgery is 1 week from today. I've been cleaning & organizing (almost a "nesting" instict) constantly. Getting a 2nd opinion and being informed as much as possible, consider family history, ask DR as many questiona as you can think of - there are no silly or unnecessary questions regarding your health & well being!

Post your surgery date when you know it so you can receive encouragement from other hyster-sisters.

PS -- Thanks for reminding me about my humming birds. I have to change the food b4 I go in 4 surgery! Use a timer with a LOUD alarm!!!!! I have one that beeps incessantly (like a 2 year old) until you pay attention to it! Your health takes precedent over any job IMHO.

New and worried

Hi MaryLF: Just wanted to comfort you and tell you I've read that MOST ovarian cysts are benign, even for postmenopausal women. I know it's hard but please try to keep positive thoughts. We are all praying for the best outcome for you. Love, Jen

Thanks for all the encouragement. I see my tentative surgeons tomorrow and Thursday, and will let you know how it goes.
