Vaginal Shortening - is there a fix? (Vaginal atrophy)

I had my hysterectomy in Feb 2012. They removed my uterus and my cervix, but left my ovaries. I don't know if it's relevant, but two months later I went through menopause and the blood test I took indicated i was "Post-menopausal".

Since then sex is on a good day, not uncomfortable. It is very difficult to achieve orgasm and it just feels uncomfortable. And That is Barry White, slow jam, kind've sex. If we do anything "faster" or "harder" than slow dance, I bleed afterwards and sometimes experience cramping. I'm sorry. But this is unacceptable.

is there a surgery to repair this? I can't live like this. I'll pay whatever it costs.

Have you talked to your doctor about your experiences post op?

My dr told me that I should never bleed again so when I did, 3 months out, I know something was wrong and it was. I had a vaginal cuff tear. My point is, I certainly would have some discussions about bleeding and cramping at this stage with my dr.

I've been to the doctor and he called it vaginal atrophy and prescribed a estrogen cream. But it's not helping. I'm looking for a surgical repair or something. Does anyone know anything about reconstructive surgery.

There are no surgical repairs for vaginal atrophy. Vaginal atrophy is inflammation and thinning of the walls of the vagina and it causes painful sex. The condition is a result of too little estrogen. The "repair" is some type of estrogen, often a cream applied directly to the vaginal area.

By the way, vaginal atrophy is not a shortening of the vagina.

perhaps there is no cure for vaginal atrophy, but my vagina is MOST DEFINITELY shorter. Is there a surgical procedure for that? If we get the slightest bit more rowdy than Barry White kind of love-making, I wind up in a puddle of blood. Lots of blood. I'm scared I'm going to get an infection.

My first thought would be that vaginal dilators might be a less invasive option to try first. Have you looked into that at all?

If you google "vaginal lengthening", you should find some information regarding surgical procedures. When I searched, the second link down was for a couple doctors that apparently specialize in the procedure.

Another thought for the interim, what about trying a "penis" ring (not what they're usually called, but that sounds less offensive, lol) to take some length off your husband, and hopefully not only help with the bleeding/irritation problem, but also hopefully allow you both more freedom with your movements.

That bleeding is a result of your vaginal walls being thin and thus they are tearing and bleeding. It is not because your vagina is shorter.

You have to treat the vaginal atrophy so the vagina walls will thicken again and the inflammation will decrease.

And yes, with all the tearing you are at risk for infection.

How long have you been using the vaginal estrogen? It will take some time. You may also need a higher dose or you may need to use it more often--but talked to your doctor before making any adjustments. You may also require a different method of estrogen.

Talk to your doctor about your continued issues and/or get a second opinion. Everything you have shared cannot and will not be fixed by any type of surgery and using dilators or any other objects could make it worse as they could also tear the tissue. The problem is that because of a lack of estrogen, your vaginal walls are too thin and now cannot tolerate the friction caused with sexual intercourse.

The doctor left ovaries so I assume you were far from natural menopause.... Is there any chance that your ovaries could be wake up? I know that may be a silly question but, after hearing about ovarian regrowth, it seems plausible.
