The Swelly Belly syndrome...

I'm 7 weeks post-op and doing great. Still have a little swelly belly. I've read several posts concerning this but my question is WHY do women get the infamous swelly belly? How come it can last awhile with some women?

What is the average time that most women's belly's return to normal?

Thanks,
J

Re: The Swelly Belly syndrome...

I saw you had no answers yet, but truly, I can't really answer this question. I am still getting some swelly belly and I am 4 months post op. My doctor said 3 months is normal; however, remember that everyone heals at their own pace, some are faster and some are slower. I just read a post that said she had her swelly belly almost a year.....when you go back for your checkup, you can ask your doctor.
Good luck,
Colleen

Re: The Swelly Belly syndrome...

I'm anxious for this answer too....I just had my surgery last week and already hate the swelly belly. When I asked my doctor he said there's really no timeline he can give me for how long it will be swollen....guess it varies with women.

Re: The Swelly Belly syndrome...

I am four weeks post TAH - my swelly belly dramatically disappeared over the last week. My belly is completely flat when I wake up in the morning and only comes back a little by the end of the day. I just returned to work part time and have been fairly active over the last three weeks, though just walking. Needless to say I am thrilled! I am also back in my jeans which aren't bothering me one bit thanks to the 18 lbs I've lost since the surgery.
