Are any of you superstitious?

I am never usually superstitious but since I got my date to go into the castle I have been seeing a single magpie every time I go out.

In England the number of magpies you see means something different. the rhyme goes :-

One for Sorrow
Two for Joy
Three for a Girl
Four for a Boy
Five for Silver
Six for Gold
Seven for a secret never to be told.

Now if I see one magpie I spend the rest of the time I'm outside looking for another one.

I know its stupid and its probably down to reasons that I only see one but it is really spooking me.

Please tell me I'm daft for feeling like this.

Thanks

You could look at it in a different context...

MAGPIE - denotes talkativeness, 'chatterbox'. In China the magpie is considered 'good luck.' It's cry is believed to announce 'good news'. It is the embodiment of 'yang', the bird of happiness and good fortune, marital bliss.

I am not a superstitious person, but I do believe animals have reasons for appearing to us...

First of all, I don't think that you're daft. I think that a good many of us worry about going into this surgery. IMO, it's a big, emotional, and scary decision. Try thinking of the reasons that you made the decision it the first place. How your problems should be gone after your recovery.

I like earthlady's description - that would work for me

Best wsihes.

Sorrow can also come in many forms I feel. For instance, even though I am ready for this surgery and tired of hurting I have a sense of sorrow. Sorrow for the fact my body failed and at such a young age, that I have to have yet another surgery, and sorrow that my family has to face this too.

So see your magpie might be so bad and it might be cueing you into somethings. I'm not superstitious though but I do believe God has ways of telling us to open our eyes sometimes.

Dearest Choccie,

You're daft!
