12 weeks post hysterectomy - feeling like a head case
12 weeks post TAH, still fighting a vaginal cuff hematoma. Cannot work 40 hrs/wk, cannot lift, push, or pull, cannot go camping, shooting, or have intercourse without experiencing pain or discomfort. So 12 weeks post hyst and life is still not back to normal. Im feeling like a mental head case which is not helping me get through anything emotionally. Theres nothing else i can do to speed up the healing process and what i am doing -resting and heat therapy- is making me feel even more depressed. My family, co-workers, and friends all want me to be feeling better but theres nothing they can do to help either. Wasnt the whole point of going through this major surgery to feel better?!?! Im seriously over it.

Hi. Has your doctor given you any indication of how long it will take to heal? It sounds painful and I feel for you. I'm a week behind you and just finally starting to feel normal again. I wish there was something I could add here to help you. I see there are not many responses...did you try searching the site for others with this problem?

Re: 12 weeks post op-feeling like a head case
Jan. 14th was 3 months since my surgery. I have contacted my doctor 4 times on the phone and had to see him for a bladder infection and an incision infection. These things set me back a bit in my recovery and I felt discouraged and impatient with having to take it so slow.
I know it takes everyone a different amount of time to get back to "normal" life. I happen to be progressing a bit slower than I thought I would, but by reading this site I know I am not alone.
Being a mental head case will not last forever, even if it feels like it will right now. This is a great place to vent your feelings, and get some "hugs" from those who have experienced what you are feeling.
Slow and steady will get you there!!

I am just three months too. Besides adjusting to hormones and feeling like crying too much. Now my dr wants to put me on antidepressant medication. Is it too soon? Are there other options?

Re: 12 weeks post op-feeling like a head case
Hi..I have heard that people do that. i'm not clear on why they use antidepressants so maybe someone else who has experienced this can tell you. I'm sure it has to do with the hormonal imbalance and mood swings..Personally, and I do not know or understand how you are feeling but if it were me..(I'm anti-drug and have to be on two right now which goes against everything I believe in but pain is not enjoyable and interferes with life! ) I would give it some time...but only you know what's best for you. I'm curious...does the doc tell you the anti depressants are temporary until things balance out or life time? I'm guessing you are on HRT due to having ovaries removed before menopause?

Re: 12 weeks post op-feeling like a head case
Thanks for the response. I'm on hrt pills and yes I feel it is too soon to mask emotions with another pill. It is an interesting ride as even without ovaries, I'm still feeling those lows at certain times of month. I'm going to monitor it for now and try a paleo based diet.

12 weeks post hysterectomy - feeling like a head case
It could take 6 months for it to fully reabsorb. If its not gone by my next appointment, i will just have it drained. Its time to get on with life.
