Driving or getting out 3 weeks post hysterectomy?

I am 3 weeks post op. I was just wondering if anyone has ventured out or tried driving yet and what was the outcome?

Re: Driving or getting out?

I had a TAH and was taking short walks around my neighbourhood four days after surgery. 13 days after surgery I walked a mile on flat ground to a local clinic to have my staples removed. After that I started practicing walking up and down steep hills, which meant that I could finally get to the supermarket about a mile away to buy more yogurt (as long as I kept the loads under 10 lbs).

Certainly three weeks is not too early to try venturing out. Listen to your body and head for home as soon as your body says to.

Re: driving, has your doctor cleared you to drive yet? Also, are you off narcotics?

Re: Driving or getting out?

I was driving by 5 days after surgery but I only took ibuprofen after day 3. I had a lap procedure. I was walking up to 2 miles after 2 weeks as well

I started driving at 3 weeks and venturing out with my doctor's approval. Driving is difficult at times because moving your body to look behind you when backing up or changing lines pulls at your tummy. But, it felt great to be independent and out of my house! I am going back to work Monday, 5.5 weeks post op, and I am very nervous! I teach in an elementary school and I am praying I make it through!

Here's to healing as best we can!

Re: Driving or getting out?

I was out every day my first week, except the day I came home. I was allowed and able to drive at one week. What does your dr say?

Re: Driving or getting out?

Before you start driving, I would talk to your as as he should release you for driving. As for venturing out, I was out and about 10 days after. However, I could only last an hour for the first couple weeks. Even at 8 weeks, I was exhausted after 3 hours..
