Found out several things and have surgery scheduled

So, I had an ultrasound and urodynamic testing done. They said it showed that I have an overactive bladder and symptoms of stress incontinence. So, I get to have a bladder sling put in on top of my hysterectomy and rectocele repair. They will be using my own tissue for the rectocele repair instead of mesh. My hysterectomy is going to be LAVH and it will all be done on Jan 14. 2 days after my 29th birthday. Yay me. Any experience with any of this?

My mother had cervical cancer several years ago. I found out that her mom and my dad's mom also had this issue and had hysterectomies before they were even in their 40's. I'm thinking about asking if they think a biopsy should be done when they do my surgery.

Also, my mother is having a hysterectomy and oophorectomy Jan 6. Narrowly avoided an emergency hysterectomy just before Christmas. She was having heavy bleeding and huge clots. For a good month. Her cervix and left ovary are covered in cysts, couldn't see right ovary, and her uterus looks like it is possibly precancerous. She already had cervical cancer several years ago. I found out that her mom and my dad's mom also had this issue and had hysterectomies before they were even in their 40's. I had my lavh a week ago today, and got the lab results back today. So after the hyst you should be told if anything precancerous was found.

Did you request a biopsy or do they automatically do one? I had so many questions I wanted to ask at my appointment that I completely forgot to ask this one and to tell her about what had happened with my mom. Ugh. And my next appointment isn't until Jan 12 for my pre-op and to go register at the hospital.

And how are you feeling?

They will biopsy anything they take out of your body. You should consider BRCCA testing given your family history. If you have insurance it will be covered. You can avoid mesh with your sling too if you ask for the burch procedure. Good luck with the surgery!

Re: Found out several things and have surgery scheduled

@My4littlelemens: They just biopsied after, I didn't ask. Each day is better, like in the hospital after surgery I could barely move, it hurt so much. The constipation is bad, still struggling with that. gas pains are bad, but mostly gone in a few days. This site and the women on here have told me so much more than anyone else, its really great to read what others have been through and are going through. I'm 34, so I can imagine how you feel getting this done so young.

Re: Found out several things and have surgery scheduled

I had a davincii hysterectomy with a sling and rectocele repair on dec 12. The rectocele repair has hurt more than anything. It feels like the soreness of a vaginal birth but worse. Ice packs and sitz baths have helped the most. My emotions have been out if whack but I kept my ovaries. I'm 35

See, I didn't know that. Good to know!

Thank you ladies. It freaks me out knowing what all is about to happen to my poor downstairs. But I know it will be for the better. What did they tell y'all about lifting things? I'm just trying to getan estimate. I am going to be sure to ask at my pre-op. I have 4 young boys (all 4 1/2 years and younger). My 1 1/2 year old is still in a crib and my youngest is 4 months old. My husband took 2 weeks off but can take more if needed to help me. I'm also curious as to what sex life will be like after. This is going to be a lot of stuff with a lot of stitches. So I'm curious as to if it will change things. Or how it will change the way I feel thinkI guess.

Goodness! You will definitely need help! They say no lifting above 10 lbs. I was supposed to go back to work 2 weeks post op at a daycare, but I'm waiting because there's no way I wont pick up a baby, and I'm afraid I'll pull something. It'll be hard, but don't lift on your little ones.

Re: Found out several things and have surgery scheduled

My dr said no lifting more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks. I have a 3 yr old and a 14 month old. My husband works 24 hr shifts so I need help whenever he is working. I don't know about the sex life as I was told to wait 6 weeks for that too. Too me, it feels like a super bad vaginal birth with large tears. There's a crazy amount of tightening but it's starting to get better.

Re: Found out several things and have surgery scheduled

My friend had a hysterectomy and was told 8 weeks. So I'm curious as to what they will tell me. I live 3 hours away from all family. And they all work all the time so it will really need to be planned out for after my husband has to go back to work.

Also, what have your doctors told you about birth control, not needing it, or the possibility of getting pregnant since the ovaries were left behind? I've been curious about that the last few days as well. I can't imagine having to go through the emotional, and physical, pain of getting pregnant and having to have it terminated.
