TAH: Packing

Hey Wacky! Good luck tomorrow! I was glad that I took premoistened face wipes and the Oral B brush ups (that I kept in my fanny pack)...they made me feel refreshed/human while I layed in bed a few hours after surgery and the next day until I got my catheter out. I also used the throat lozenges and gum in my fanny pack. I would be careful about what snacks you take in...your bowels will be at a standstill and if you eat too soon after you could be in a heap of pain/trouble to get them moving. This happened to my roommate who brought in crackers and nutrigrain bars and was eating like crazy...she was in sooooo much pain and could not poop. I did not not have much of an appetite and I think it was my body's way of telling me to let my bowels get going again...I stuck to the clear liquid diet provided and I pooped the day after surgery(tmi) but it was such a relief to know that my bowels still worked. Another invaluable thing was the Gas X...I asked the nurses for some and they would not give me any because it was not on the Dr's directives for me so I snuck mine out of my bag when no one was looking....the difference in pain was like night and day an hour later.
