Exercising

When did you start back exercising? I have been walking but I'm wondering about more intense exercising. I know I need to talk to my doctor and I will but I just wanted to get an idea about what others have done. Thanks for your input!!

Re: Exercising

My doctor told me 6 weeks for light to moderate exercise. He also laughed when I mentioned some of the timelines for other things people have shared here.

Re: Exercising

I think my doctor thinks I read everyone's comments too much (he's prob right!) but I enjoy the insight and compassion found here!

Re: Exercising

Yes, me too and I like being able to encourage and share, but I also had to adjust for my personal needs.

Re: Exercising

I waited until 6weeks and started slowly...unfortunately I ended up with my cuff dehiscing and back to the OR so I'm back to square 1 and extremely strict restrictions for at least 8weeks now . Definitely check with your doc but even when he gives you the all clear listen to your body! I heard her yelling at me once or twice but wasn't listening close enough.

Re: Exercising

I was told I could go back to the gym and hop on the treadmill or bike and take it SLOWLY at 4 weeks. I could also start lifting light weights then too, but I'm too chicken to to that! My Dr told me that it would be a while before she would be comfortable with me going back to where I was before surgery. Even though I had a DvH, she is concerned that I might pop some of the internal stitches holding the incisions together and that could lead to a hernia. That scared me enough to not even be thinking about weight lifting.

She also warned that if I had sex too early I could pop the stitches holding my cuff together and if that happened my intestines could come out of my vagina. When I gave her the OMG! face, she said yup that's why I tell people that, it really makes them want to wait! She is right!

Re: Exercising

lol I thought the images of a vag cuff had completly quenched any urge to do stuff before dr ok'd but that comment just squashed any last smidges of desire hiding away lmao! Had enough of my insides hanging out lol don't want to see my intestines tyvm!

Re: Exercising

Trust emraldize...it isn't fun!! I waited 6 weeks before having very easy sex and 8 weeks before attempting any sit-ups...I had the all clear and started out easy but evidently my body still didn't like them. I was nervous before even though I felt like a million bucks...but I'm sure I'll be twice as nervous when I'm given the all clear again.
