Feeling like I'm crazy

I posted a thread earlier in the week about how depression and anxiety has set in. I called my doctors office, and the doctor basically said that I still had one ovary, so my hormones should not have been effected. They said that they would do some blood work to check, but referred me to my psychiatrist. I feel a little slighted. I have been doing fine on my antidepressants and anti anxiety meds for awhile now, so why would they just quit working several days after my hysterectomy? I feel like they think I'm just mental or something. I do not want to go messing with my psychotropic meds unless I can rule out a hormonal issue. If it isn't hormonal, then who knows...

I am going through something similar. My anti depressants are definitely not working. Whether its hormones or the "trauma" of my surgery I don't know. But I know something is going on. Your med dr might be able to help you so I would suggest seeing him. I am seeing mine this week. Good luck

I want to reassure you both you are not imagining it . I am 7 wks post op TAH- kept my ovaries that have shut down and I have every menapause symptom . Why drs say if u have ur ovaries u won't be effected is beyond me . I'm very in tune with my body and I cry now at everything I have anxiety insomnia my skin is crawling and I feel off .

Go for the bloodwork. Anesthesia can temporarily throw your regular meds out of whack. I know I'm feeling out of sorts right now. But the response from your doctor is rude.

It is very common for the ovaries to shut down temporarily after hysterectomy as their blood supply from the uterine ovary is disrupted. Things should get back to normal in a few weeks. Try to be patient and give your body time to adjust to its new normal.
