Just found out...

I was just told on Mon that I need to have a hysterectomy. I have one ovary left and Dr. says if it looks healthy he'll leave it there, otherwise he'll remove it along with my uterus, and cervix. I was recently told to stop taking blood thinners now for an ovarian vein thrombosis that appears to be doing well that I got from my last surgery. Dr. told me that I will have to go back on the blood thinners after surgery. I understand why but it seems like two steps forward, 3 giant leaps backwards when it comes to my health these days. I know everyone says that this is for the best and I get that. I am incredibly nervous about the risks afterwards. I have a family history of breast cancer as well as heart disease and these are my dr.'s two main concerns for me should he have to remove my other ovary. I'm not sure that I am emotionally ready for this but physically, I understand that I have no other options to deal with the immense pain that I have constantly been in for the last few years....I don't know ladies, I'm trying not to stress, but that is way easier said than done!

Re: Just found out...

Sure you're nervous, almost everybody is when they need surgery
But you found the right place to find support and information, we are all more or less in the same boat.
So welcome!

For me, I was a little nervous, and don't have other health issues besides the heavy bleeding and pain. Now its over and I am just so relieved I never have to have a period again!

Re: Just found out...

I know you are right. I am hoping I find support here so far so good, but I hope one day to be able to offer support to someone else as well. Thank you for the welcome!

There will be enough time for that, first I hope you find all the information and support you need here, and thank you.

Re: Just found out...

Mojo,

It is okay to feel up and down at times...it is a big emotional rollercoaster. Sometimes, I "put my big girls panties on"...and I feel like this is no big deal. Other times, I just am mad. (Dont' know why just am) LOL!

Everyone is great here with support and information.

Re: Just found out...

aww thanks smartteapantz! I just got a call this morning from my dr. informing me that my surgery has been moved up from july 27th to next thursday the 30th. Talk about nerves. I have a lot of support here at home but talk about getting caught off guard, eh? I guess it's better for me to get it done asap based on the severity of pain I've been in though. I know I'm gonna be okay, but it's glad to know that the emotional rollercoaster ride I'm on is normal. My thing is, I don't know why this is bothering me so much. I guess because I'm so stubborn that I just can't handle being told that I can't do something anymore. Does that make sense to anyone, or am I just a lunatic? LOL! I'm really hoping for a drastic improvement in the pain from the endo after this surgery. I know it won't take away all the pain, but there should be much improvement...so I have been told.

Re: Just found out...

First, big hugs.

So, last Sunday night while I was worrying and feeling pretty ill from the bowel prep, I started thinking "gahhh maybe this isn't worth it gaahhhhh!"

Then, like a message from the heavens, I got one of my infamous random periods. Seriously out of the blue. Giant painful clots, and my remaining ovary started just screaming.

The next morning (pre surgery) was kind of a blur.

When I woke up in recovery, feeling weaker than a kitten, barely able to respond to the nurse's questions, the first thing I became aware of was no screaming ovary because it's gone! I'm still going through the ups and downs of recovery, of course, but man, I feel like I finally got revenge on my stupid endometriosis.

I wish the same for you.

Re: Just found out...

Lizzy,

I love the line "finally got revenge on my ovary".... LOL! After this morning, and waking up to horrible pain (from the cysts on one of my ovarys)....I actually had that same thought. "Just what for two more weeks...MUAHHH" (My doctor says he isn't planning on taking them out...however said if my ovaries were in bad shape that he would.)

Re: Just found out...

That's great that they moved it up!
The sooner the better, the less time you have to worry and get nervous!
Waiting is the worst part of it, believe me.
