Jewelry..silly but I want to know

I have not taken off my wedding ring since the day I was married almost 14 years ago, and wonder if they make you take off all jewelry before surgery?

at the hospital I go to, no jewlery of any kind or nailpolish is allowed. Maybe checking with your hospital would be the best course of action for you, to see what their ruling on jewlery is.

Jewelry..silly but I want to know

Freedom,

I haven't been able to remove my wedding ring for years - arthritis & my knuckles are swollen all the time. The nurse just put a bandaid around mine & that was it. She said it was so the ring wouldn't fall off - and to avoid the slight chance that someone would take it.

Happy holidays!

oh, you meant if you could wear it

not if you would be entitled to something tasteful but shiny for undergoing the surgery and rewarded for all your efforts LOL! Like a nice tennis bracelet or perhaps a pendant.

Some castles say no jewelery since theft could be a problem. Others will wrap tape over your ring to make it harder for some theif to pull it off you when you are half out of it. I would think it would be a bear to pick all the adhesive off my baguette settings, so I just left mine at home. Dh always puts it back on me after surgery and asks me to marry him again.

The options to me were: Remove it or put tape around it. I took mine off and gave them to dh. He put them back on me when I got to my room. Hospitals are not responsible for lost or stollen belongings, so it's way better to be safe than sorry in this instance.

Jen was also right about nail polish on either fingers or toes... no make-up, no denture of any kind (even partial plate) ... in other words, the real you.

I looked at it this way: if I could afford to lose it, I'd keep it with me. Might be a good rule of thumb hon.

I didn't know if I could get mine off either when I had my lap. done in Oct. They said if it was really impossible, they would tape it but that it would be best to try in case my fingers swelled too bad from the anesthesia. If it was too bad, they could potentially be faced with cutting it off (not likely, but enough to make me try really hard). Was able to get it off with really warm, soapy water the evening before. Was kind of sad not to be able to have it with me, but they were right about the swelling...it was a couple days before I could get it back on!

Hope your trip to the castle goes well!

I too didn't want to take mine off for surgery but knew it was best. My husband carried them in his pocket with strict instructions from me to put them back on my hand as soon as I got back to my room. He followed the instructions (he is such a good hubby!) but I had made the mistake of having the
IV done on my left hand so I didn't want him touching that hand. I waited till I got home to put them on, but even then my hand was swollen from the IV and it was tough.

I don't think your question is silly at all. I just had LAVH with BSO
on Monday and the hardest part of the morning was handing my wedding ring over to my husband. He took good care of it and tried to restore it to me right away but my fingers were too swollen from the IV [same hand]
Don't worry. Afterwards it will be very meaningful to you both when he puts it back on your finger. In sickness and in health remember?
Best wishes to you. I didn't believe what other "sisters" said before but it is true. Waiting is the hardest part.

Hi,
I just was at the castle on the 9 th. And they asked me if I had any valuables as they were not responsible. I left them at home as well and DH brought them to me.. They didn't say anything about nail polish but took that off as well. But I did wear makeup to the castle and they didn't say anything about that.. Hope all goes well for you..
