Bipolar, weight gain and hysterectomy...

I am newly diagnosed "bipolar" (past February) and in need of a hysterectomy. I am concerned that this surgery will either -A-, worsen my symptoms or, -B- make them better.
Also, I have just lost nearly 30 pounds and more worried about the weight gain, if any, and how long recovery time truly is...
Any advice is so very appreciated.
Thank you,
Jennifer

i too am bipolar and had my hyst setp 15. before my hyst my dr's all worked together to make sure i was "stable" emotionally before surgery. i urge you to have your gyn and psychiatrist talk with each other. it made all the difference in the world for me that everyone was on the same page.

many blessings.

Bipolar, weight gain and hysterectomy...

hi,
im sorry you have so much too worry about on top of the hyst! anyway, i am not bi polar. BUT....i gave birth 17 months ago, my baby blues never went away and it turned into clinical depression...still fighting it. anyway, all my dr's seem too think the surgery will help me, as mine was set of by hormones. for the first time in a long time my hormones will be regulated. although i think bi polar disorder is chemical (as too depression) i would talk this over with all your doctors. will you be having a TAH-BSO? i have just increased my meds and seems too be working. Good luck! i am no doctor-just my opion...talk it over with your dr.'s

Bipolar, weight gain and hysterectomy...

There have been alot of sister with bipolar disease.....use the websites search engine with the searchw word bipolar and you will see the posts available, It comes up frequently and this will also give you the website name of the gals who have had this, then you can see who is still posting and send private messages to them....I am betting you can get an awful lot of support this way.

Good Luck
