GasX isn't working now what?

This is day 4 post op for me. The gas is really making itself known. This is the first night I've not been able to sleep and I took a pain pill at 10 p.m. its now 12:19a.m. I might be having my first mood swing also. My DH got a little snippy with me and I wanted to lash out. But I didn't, just went to bed instead. Maybe not a mood swing per say, just fed up with gas pain. My DH has been really sweet through this whole thing. He's just not as attentive to feeding me. Church group brings food that I can't eat. So my DH's tummy is full and happily watching TV as I wander downstairs to check the fridge for myself. You know girls they mean well its just that they are programmed differently. He has been keeping the house clean and doing laundry but he always has time for that xx##!! TV. I'm stuck upstairs all day by myself with a TV of course. He doesn't come and sit with me or visit with me. Am I being a big baby? Yes, I think I am. Sorry I am just needing to vent or ....fart or something. Ha! Okay, I'll stop right there. Oh Lord, I'm quite sweaty right now. Looks like I really worked myself into a tizzy. This is some ride, isn't it ladies??

GasX isn't working now what?

How are you? I had the same problem with gas pains, I walked around my apt a few times and drank hot tea, that seemed to work for me. I didn't have a BM for 1 week after surgery so my dr. told me to take a fleet enema and no more gas pains. Sorry you aren't getting the support you need. It's normal to have the blues also. I went thru my crying spell and my dr. told me it was my hormones going in shock, he told me it would pass in a week; I feel a little better but still have my crying moments. I had wonderful support from my DH and my mother stayed with us for a week so I was really spoiled. Wish I was there to give you a much needed hug. I promise you, you will start to feeling better, it just takes times. Maybe you could show your husband this website and clue him in on what you've been through. Keep in touch and I'm praying for you.

GasX isn't working now what?

This is going to sound strange, but I tried it and it WORKED fabulously!

My surgeon told my husband to go out to a Chinese take out and order Hot and Sour Soup and to deliver it to me in the hospital 36 hours after my surgery.

This soup contains vinegar and he said that would help neutralize the gas problems.

Within 10 minutes of eating this soup, my bowels had no further difficulty with gas or moving! Things have been just great in that area.

Good Luck.

I went to this website: http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs12.htm
(scroll down to Foods That Contribute to Gas Production)

At first, it looks like it names every kind of food, so you might be tempted to think, "So what can I eat??" But if you look at the sample menu, there are some good ideas. For example:
  • Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries, Grapes, Peaches, Pears, Oranges, & Grapefruit are some good fruits.
  • Lettuce (all kinds), Spinach, Green Beans, and Carrots, are good vegetables.
  • Eggs (boiled, poached, or lightly fried) and lean meats are good protein sources.
  • Combine some of the above meats, rice or rice noodles, and veg in either chicken or beef broth for a nice soup.
Hope this helps. I ate along those guidelines for the first 7 to 10 days, along with taking Gas-X, and I never really had severe gas problems.

GasX isn't working now what?

Finally!!! I was sitting in the bathroom doing my "duty" and my husband was in the joining bedroom cheering me on. Finally after eating scrambled eggs I had my first bm. I'm so glad that is over with. My husband got the hint last night that I was needing him more than he was offfering. He thought doing the laundry and dishes was taking care of me. Today he got right on breakfast and is now going to make a run for some popscicles and ice cream. He really did cheer me on during my "potty time". He has a wonerful sense of humor and we have been laughing all day. I am feeling much better and was able to take a nap without pain meds. I guess we just have to take it one day at a time.......
