Being on period at the time of your hyst
Hi all!! How is everyone? As for me, I am doing fine, just a little nervous about surgery. Only two weeks now! I was wondering if it mattered if you are on your period when it is time for the surgery? The way it looks for me, I will be. Do I need to tell the doctor? Or does it matter? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Being on period at the time of your hyst
Hi Lisa
That's a very good question and one that comes up often. In fact, I asked the very same one when I was Pre-Op.
What I learned, which is pretty much what I figured, was that it doesn't really matter whether or not we're on our period at the time of our hyst. Most of us are having the hyst due to heavy, irregular and frequent bleeding, making it very hard to schedule on an off day.
However, as is always the case, your best approach would be to contact your doctor and let him know of the situation. A heads' up about possible complications is always appreciated
Wishing you the best of luck on your upcoming surgery.

Being on period at the time of your hyst
I had just started my period 2 days before my pre-op. MD had planned to do an internal on that day, but said it wasn't totally necessary. My surgery was 6 days after the pre-op, and I still had my period, but it really wasn't a big deal. The good news was that the spotting I had for 4-5 days after the surgery was much less than the bleeding I had from my period when I went in. I guess if I were you, I would ask my own MD just to ease my mind.
Good luck to you!

Being on period at the time of your hyst
Hi...I agree, this is a good question, and from what I've seen during my months here on the board, a HUGE percentage of us are in the midst of a period at the time of surgery!
It doesn't matter. Just let them know, and they will let you keep a pad until you get into the OR. Some hospitals will even give you disposable panties to use with the pad.
The bleeding I had immediately post op was NOTHING compared to what I was used to. The hospital people don't even blink at it, so don't worry about it.

Being on period at the time of your hyst
Hi Lisa. I was on my period when I had my surgery (TAH). It was towards the end, so I wasnt bleeding quite so bad. My doc said no problem. They gave me a pad to wear after surgery and that was the only one I used. When I came home 2 days later, no more periods for me! What a great feeling!!!
Ask your doc. I dont think it will be a problem.
Good luck to you!!!!
