biopsy of uterus without pain meds

Why are the biopsies of the uterus done in the doctors office without any pain medication I'm still spoting from mine too.

Re: biopsy of uterus without pain meds

lise 38,
When a friend at work had a biopsy I asked her why the dr didn't give her any pain meds. I thought it was ridiculous. I didn't realize about two weeks later I was going to also have a biopsy. The pain was intense, but since it doesn't last very long, my guess is that with no meds, I could drive myself after the procedure.

I can handle pain that I know will go away, it is the pain that occurs day-after-day with no end in sight that is harder. I kept chanting in my head "I can handle anything for 15 seconds". It seemed to help.

Thank goodness my results were fine. Have you found out your results yet?

Re: biopsy of uterus without pain meds

Hi lise38

I also found myself chanting "I can handle anything for 15 seconds." Of even more help, though, was the fact that my doctor had told me to take ibuprofen about an hour before the procedure. When I arrived at her office, she even asked me if I had done so, just to be sure I was as comfortable as possible.

I spotted for about a week after my biopsy.

Re: biopsy of uterus without pain meds

My endometrial biopsy was like a pap with a pinch. I was a little crampy after, but it was nothing even close to the cramps I had with my period. I wasn't pre-medicated because it was my first visit with the doctor (I'd been seeing a nurse practitioner.) If I had known, I would have used some ibuprofen prior, but I didn't want to reschedule for it since the sharp pain didn't last but a few seconds.

I know it's no fun. Hope you feel better soon.
Sending gentle your way and hope you get good news.

Re: biopsy of uterus without pain meds

Thanks to all of you sisters who replied. If I had only known it was comming and I love the chant "I can handle anything" I will try that next time

I'm still waiting for my results I'm assuming it takes a few weeks. I'm out 8 1/2 months from a UFE that did help just not enough with my bladder as I still get up at night around 2 to 3 times but down from the 9 I was getting up.

If it was not for that darn bladder I would probably do the removal of the submucosal firbroid that is dead but now starting to move into my uterus from the UFE and have ablation my OBGYN gave me two choices that and she said she could biopsy the uterus again during the proceedure or a hysterectomy.
Due to the bladder issues I'm going to do the hysterectomy. My OBGYN just wants to make sure the continued bleeding that I have is not endmetrial cancer. She told me she did not think it was but just be prepared for it just in case.
I am strangely calm about this I think because after having a MRI for the UFE they found a tumor inside my bladder which was a complete shock to everyone. I had not one symtom from it no bleeding or anything.
bladder tumors are almost always malignant. I lived for a month thinking I had maybe 5 years. I learned really quick that everything I thought was important was not.

That tumor ended up being a darn non malignant fibroid of all things. The urologist said he had only seen two cases in all his time as a doctor and I was number two. That experience taught me to just relax until I get a diagnoisis I learned to enjoy every second of every moment even if it is sipping a cup of herbal tea. Now I'm just hoping for a good outcome again I feel like I have been on a roller coaster ride for a year now and I want off..

Re: biopsy of uterus without pain meds

wow just got the phone call from my obgyn as soon as I posted. She said it was very normal results and that it just might be hormonal wants to give me progestrin but I tried that before my UFE and it made me bleed so terrible I don't think I'm willing to do that so we decided to now take a look at the ultrasound that I will be having at the end of the month to see if anything is going on with my ovaries ect. it is so frustraiting...
