Should I keep my overies?

Well I just went in today for my pre-op visit, and left very confused.

The orig plan was to take my uterus & cervix and if the Overies looked bad to take them.

Now, I had reminded him that my ovulation is almost more painful than my actual period. Which is cause by the overies. So he said If I want to have them removed then he would remove them, even if they look fine. There for doing a total hyster.

Im very cofused because now Im not sure if the overies look fine than why am I in so much pain during ovulation?

Should they stay for obvious reasons or will I have problems with them still after my partial & have to go back again for the rest of it in a year or so?

Any and all advice would be very helpful right now. I am more confused than I ever was before.

Thanks

Should I keep my overies?

Sommer,

You might want to talk to your Dr. further about ovary removal.

From my research, if both ovaries are removed it causes surgical menopause.

Possibly...since from your profile you are in your 20's, and your ovaries look good, your Dr. could remove one ovary and leave the other. That does not cause surgical menopause and you have more time to decide on options.

Good Luck. Hyst researching can be difficult and you are on a good track!! We Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can.

Should I keep my overies?

Hi,

You are still young and would need hormones for many years if you take them out. I would talk to the dr more about this.

If you want to read some information about ovaries, just go to the top of the page and click on Resources. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a place to type in ovaries and you will pull up the info.

I hope this helps.

Should I keep my overies?

If you are having the surgery due to endo, have them take the ovaries! If you leave the ovaries, any endo the doctor may miss during surgery will swell and bleed every month (even without the uterus). My doc ALWAYS removes the ovaries if its for endo. Statistics are 40% chance of endo returning when you leave the ovaries, 10% of endo returning when ovaries are gone, and many women who leave their ovaries need further surgery at some point to take them out. Please talk this issue over with your doctors!!! I'm 34, had both ovaries out due to endo, and am already taking hormones w/ no problems.

Should I keep my overies?

Dear Sommer

I have to make the same choice about whether to keep one of my ovaries, if either are in any shape for keeping. It is a difficult decision, I know. I am doing research and weighing the pros and cons. This feels so big and important, and personally, I don't like decisions at all. Please quiz your doctor on all your concerns. There are no stupid questions.

Hang in there.
