Just found out

This is my first posting. I just found out that I have to have my hysterectomy after years of horrible menstral cycles, and a cervical cancer scare. They are leaving my cervix, I have heard that you can still have bleeding if you keep your cervix. Is this true and will it be light?? I have had 3 opinons and they said it will solve my menstral problems, but they never really answered my questions about still having some monthly bleeding. Can anyone provide me with an answer? Thank you.

I kept my cervix. All I can tell you is that I think my Dr removed some glands and did some cauterization so that I wouldn't have any bleeding from the cervix. She said the last thing I wanted was more bleeding after my history, she understood my concern, the same as yours. Am only 6 weeks post-op but didn't have any significant spotting at all after surgery and so far all is clear.

Hi Widgee,

I also kept my cervix.

If a Hyster Sister keeps one or both ovaries and the cervix...there can be a chance of a mini-period in post-op. Generally, ladies report that it requires a pantyliner at that time of the month.

I agree with Morgainec. You might want to ask your Dr. about cervix cauterization. I also had my cervix cauterized during my hyst and I have not had any mini-periods in post-op.

Sending best wishes~

Mary

You're from Oregon! Yippee! You're the first one I've seen from Oregon, I'm west side of Portland, technically Cedar Mill, glad you're here, sorry you have to have surgery. Can I ask, why are they leaving your crvix if you had a scare? Do you have dysplasia, or just a funky pap that came back fine after retest? Just curious, sorry, I had "issues". I lost most of my cervix in cone biospy, the rest with the hysto, so I'm sorry I can't help with that, but be sure you understand what the issue with the scare was before you make your final decision.

Sorry, I got a little over-excited tbhe Oregon thing! Just had to put in my 2 cents.

I am glad to see somone from here too!! I'm just south of Portland. I had dysplasia that was sucessfully removed. Dr. said that he would remove it all if it looked at all suspicious. I am talking to him next week about it. I think if there is the possability of it returning why not take care of it while I'm there. It would make me feel better in the long run. Thank you so much for your reply. A friend referred me to this site and I have found a great thing in the support here.

Widgee, I had clean paps before surgery, but it was a piece of mind thing for me, I went through so much dealing with that darn thing, now I don't have to worry any more. As you know, getting a funky pap is increadibly stressful, but make the decision that works best for you and your life. I think you'll be happy either way you go! Exams were also very painful for me, so as much as I love my doc, I'm SO happy not to have to do the wire brush ever again!

Have a great day, and are we EVER going to get snow in Portland???? Where did you Oregon girls do your surgery?
