I'm back

Hi everyone,

Well, it's all over but the recovery. I wanted to take a few minutes to post and let everyone know how my experience went.

First, I will say this: If there's ANY chance that you can have surgery done with anything BUT general "A"... GO FOR IT! I was so pukey after surgery I thought I'd die from that alone.

I had a TVH, kept ovaries on thurs, 5/9. Surgery at 1 pm, in my room by 6 pm. No packing, no catheter. At midnight, the good nurse decides it's time for me to get up and pee... yuck, dry heaves, no pee-- in goes the catheter. Sleep, sleep, sleep. 6 AM, try to sit up and drink water-- sick again. 8 AM, same thing. Also at 8 AM, they take out the catheter and then the REAL fun started. Seems that my bladder decided to take a vacation and stop working. WELL, after 2 hours of sitting on the throne trying to pee and having excrutiating pain, we realized I had a problem. Nurse straight cath'ed me, then had to do it again an hour later. The result??? This lucky princess was sent home with the stuff to

oops...

(sorry, hit send by mistake)

anyway, this lucky princess was sent home with all the tools to STRAIGHT CATH MYSELF!!!! So that's what I've been doing since friday evening... and boy am I tired of it.

Anyone else have problems with bladder shutting down after surgery??

Other than that, I've got minimal to no pain from the hyster itself, only lots of pain when I pee (burning)

And yes, I'll be calling the doctor to find out why it's still like this.

They did check for UTI, found none...

Well, back to bed before the pillow police come by!
Thanks for listening,
Karen

Bladder shut down

I read on this web site that sometimes if you put a couple of drops of peppermint oil in the toilet before you go that really helps. Try it and let us know if it did. I bought some to take to the castle with me in case.

Good luck with your recovery. Take it easy and get back to us when your feeling better.
