Hello and any singing sisters?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the resources I have found through you sisters! I am scheduled to have a TAH-BSO on next Monday due to ovarian cysts and a history of endometriosis and adhesions. I have learned so much here - thoughtful answers to questions I didn't even know I had. It has helped me so much to be more pro-active.
I wonder if any of you sisters are singers. I sing with two different vocal ensembles, and I am not sure when I will feel ready to go back to rehearsals and performances. I have told my groups that I will have to wait and see how I feel. I would appreciate any input.

Warmest wishes to you all.

Cleome

Hello and any singing sisters?

I sing, and the problem I had was being able to sit up or stand up straight for any length of time. You really appreciate how much work your abdominals do to support your breathing. I gave it 2 months before I started practicing for any length of time.

Kay

Hello and any singing sisters?

I sing in a ladies' trio and also lead worship at my church. I had my LAVH on the 17th of this month. Still resting and recuperating. I did do a little singing to see where I was at....... Not full speed yet... Afraid to use my diaphram.......... Still babying those muscles.....

Hello and any singing sisters?

I sing in my church choir, praise team and solo's. I'll be having TVH on March 3. I'm wondering if I'll feel like singing in our Easter program (April 14, 15, 16) and all of the practices up till that time.

Hello and any singing sisters?

I want to advise you to ask the anesthesia to try a LMA with you instead of intubating. It will lessen the chance of damage to vocal chords. THe risk is minimal but always there. If your surgery is potentially going to be too long and they don't think they can, ask what they can do. Tell them you sing and it is a concern. Good luck. I am 6 weeks out and doing ok now. Take care

Hello and any singing sisters?

I too was scared, but more about the intubation. The last small procedure I had done did leave me horse for several days afterwards and it looked like a student had done it cause I had red streaks down the back of my throat (with one ulcerating). But I did recover within the next week. I spoke to the anesth. and told him my past problems and to really watch the vocal cords.
Just wanted to let you know that I am "baby" singing the last few days. In the hospital and the first 2 days home - no way. But last night and today; I've been singing a few very special gospel songs I love lightly.
The problem so far is not being able to sit or stand for long - but hey - I'm not even a week out yet. So things look very promising.
My doc does not want me to even drive for 6 weeks, so I'm gonna live by his rules; but he can't keep me from singing at home.
Also - what's 6 weeks out of our lives when we will have the best quality of the REST OF OUR LIVES now with nothing holding us back!
Keep singing sister!

Hello and any singing sisters?

I can sing, but you REALLY, REALLY don't want to hear it.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

Hello and any singing sisters?

I'm a chorus teacher and sing all day, every day. No problems here. I could've probably gone back to work after 3 weeks and been ok with the singing......but, everyone is different and everyon heals differently.
Good luck to you!

Hello and any singing sisters?

Hi Cleome,

I didn't even think about the damage that intubation could do, but I wasn't even hoarse when I woke up.

(Roz5) A High 5 to you for recovering so quickly. It could be a difference between a TVH and a TAH. My voice was ready to go long before my abs were.
